As part of the engine bay 'smoothing' process I put my battery in the boot, all connected and working fine but im curious in regards to housing it. Battery box obviously but I know it has to be vented. Im told you can run a hose from the box but can anyone tell me of what diameter? and to where?

mate i just drilled a hole in the side of box and drilled a hole in boot floor, ive just used a piece of black garden hose, my box is on drivers side and hose exits next to the 1/4 panel, out of site

Vicroads just say that it must be vented to the atmosphere. No requirements on hose sizes etc.
Drill a hole through the bottom of the box, through the boot and be done with it, it will then be vented. I'd just do a small drill hole.

if you want to get smart all boots are ventilated to the atmosphere. dunno how that will fly with the authorities tho.

Cheers for that guys. A dry cell would be ok but i think I may just vent a box for the sake of the cost issue. As for all boots being vented the difference comes in...if you look at a BMW or a Skyline where the battery is factory in the boot they dont have a box or anything...the battery just sits there. The boot actually has vents that sit in the qtr panel behind the rear bar, like on the drivers side of the VL boot, where the floor drops of and theres that hollow in there, thats where they would go. But yeah, thanks Brett, I hadnt thought of drilling a hole straight through the floor...I guess ill just have to make sure the battery doest sit on top of the hole lol.

say that when ur stranded on a deserted highway with a flat looking with a frown at the empty well
also id check up on the dry/gel cells, i think for some stupid reason the epa even requires them to be vented, not 100%.

Had the thought...you can get that foam crap in the can...but its illegal in QLD not to have a spare tyre, kind of a stupid law if you ask me..... not like it can effect anyone but yourself
