Hi all, i'm 99%done with an rb30et conversion into a torana. the only thing left is that i cant get the ECU to turn the fuel pumps on itself. I always thought that the ECU controlled the pumps, therefore if you had a crash or something, that the ecu would switch them off if the engine stopped right? Anyways, i've printed all the info i could off the net (insanevl.com etc), and i already have a gregories manual. I have an N/A wiriving loom and a VLt auto ecu, but am running a r33 5 speed box. From the wiring info i've found, it looks asthough its either the purple/violet wire on the big black connector (that also has the tacho signal, oil press, coolant temp etc) or the dark green wire on the big blue plug that also has the big orange ecu power wires. Which 1 is meant to turn on the fuel pump relay? I can get the engine running but only if i turn the pumps on through the torana ignition wire. But thats not really how its meant to be isnt it? I've already connected the grey neutral switch wire, and the 2 pink wires together to the torana ignition wire so the ecu will switch on, but i must be missing something else. Im wondering if its something to do with the neutral switch or anti-theft stuff. Also, the brown wire on the blue plug, is that what is meant to turn on the ecu power supply relay? Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated, its the last thing i need to sort out before i can get this thing on the road!
vl ecu's dont switch the pumps on for starters, r31 skyline ecu's switch it on and thats the only diffrence.
just use the toranas wiring for the pumps etc.
you are right saying that the ecu should control the pump but how is a vl commodore ment to know if its had a crash. its in newer cars with airbags etc with all the sensors and such.
you will not need the auto trans computer, you can run ither auto or manual ecu if you like, its been done.
and another thing abut the pump, the realy gets feed directley from the body loom to switch the realy to go to the pump.
I thought that when the ignition is switched on, the ecu turns the pumps on for 5secs, then off until the engine is running. they would know by the crank angle sensor or tacho wire or multiple things wouldnt it? It doesnt necessarily have to detect crashes, just if the engine stops, it will shut the pumps off. Its just that mine will provide a spark, but it doesnt want to turn the pumps on (through the relay). So does anyone know what might be telling the ecu to do this?
Also, isnt the purple wiring off the big black plug meant to provide power to the 02 and air regulator aswell? They seem to be all connected to this purple wiring.

You're spot on. After the initial prime by the ECU, a signal from the CAS determines if the fuel pump runs. I found this out by mistake one day. Had the ignition on and was winding the motor over by hand. Fuel pump would stop as soon as i stopped turning over the motor.
The dark green wire is the pump relay trigger. The ECU will switch this wire to ground to run the pumps. The 12v ign feed to the relay is the pink wire from memory.
Not sure what plug it's in, but the brown wire on the ECU supply relay is also switched to ground by the ECU.
Yes the purple wire is the feed to the pumps, O2 sensor and air regulator.

Wrong.. The Vl does switch the fuel pumps via earth side switching relay. The two connectors up at the fire wall (one blue, one black with purple). The fuel pump relay is switched by the green wire in the blue connector. I will get the terninal number and let you know. I think from memory that it's terminal 6. But I will check. The tacho signal is from the neg side of the coil, brown with red trace. it comes back to the connectors, just splice in there for your tacho. The only difference between the turbo loom and the N/A loom is the knock sensor wire. Are you running a manual or auto. If you are running an auto and its a stock auto you will also need to run the auto computer for the trans. Most of the wires for the auto computer run through the blue plug at the firewall.
Let me know if I can be of any help
ok i always thought thet the vl ecu didnt switch the fuel pump on.
as when i did the conversion for the rb25 the fuel pump still primes and acts like normal.
