Hey all, I've done a search but can't find an answer to exactly what i'm after. I'm going to be doing some spraying tomorrow in acrylic, got it all preped ready for colour and just want to know do i sand the colour before applying clear or just once i've finished the colour go straight into clear as this seems to be what i've picked up from my search. Any help would be appriciated cause like i said i want to be doing it tomorrow. Cheers Glen

yeah its me rocker cover, just gonna give it a crack in plain acrylic not worried if it has to be redone later on down the track as it will give me something to do every now and then. plus its a spare i have. But i understand where your coming from. I'm also going to be painting a calais front very soon too so still needed to know the same thing.

you dont really need the hi temp stuff for rocker covers... i painted mine in vinyl paint and its still fine after all this time heat shields are a different story though Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

pariah, you have no clue...end of story... regardless if its acrylic... if its COB ( metallic , or a solid colour ) it needs clear do not rub the colour before clearing...just leave it to flash off for about 10 - 15 minutes, then apply a medium wet coat of clear...then after that coat, you can start to put it on heavier

ok **** stain - thats why show cars wearing acryllic paint - dont use clear, they buff the colour to a much better shine that any twopack clear would. But ok I'm sorry, didnt realise that some ****wit would come back and say I was wrong with no actual evedence himself.. Get lost idiot.

how the fark do you plan on buffing acrylic metallic paint that has no clear on it? good luck idiot you are a fool evidence - COB = clear over base saying acrylic should not be cleared is stupid. if its a solid ( not COB ) then it doesnt need clear if its COB ( e.g. Metallic..) it will need clear and lol @ show cars in acrylic..

lol at least if your going to try and argue, make sure your evidence doesnt mention clear Quote from your evidence 29. Valspar’s two-stage paint system starts with the basecoat. It flashes off fast, and dries to a matte finish. When spraying, put down as little base as required to provide uniform coloration. Keep the gun perpendicular to the area being shot, holding it 10-12 inches away. Overlap the strokes 50 percent and move the gun at an even speed. Use the same technique to apply the clearcoat.

Get lost idiot. mate sorry, but you don't know what your talking about. there is solids that are just buffed up after spraying and there are metallics that require you to have a clear coat. you still can buff the clear coat to a nice finish like the solids.

now that its been cleared up... if your spraying a COB e.g base colour ( whether its a solid or a metallic etc ) apply coats of base coat allowing flash off time between each coat.... once you get coverage, leave it to flash for about 10 to 15 minutes, then apply the clear as i mentioned earlier if its not a COB then just paint it as normal without clear EDIT FOR PARIAH - do you read? it doesnt have to be a metallic to require clear... If its COB - clear over base, it requires clear.... as i mentioned, there is also solid COBs ( for example, white )
