If its taking off at 3,000rpm then it wont be taking off in 3rd at all... it will be quite the opposite... I got no idea about autos really but either your stally is buggered (if its possible) or your box has had its ringa thrashed out of it and is just slipping badly i'd be getting it checked asap

Looks like its on its way out. Mine was doing that for a good day before it decided to give up.

Autos are cheap. Throw it out and grab a cheapy from the wreckers. Costs more to diagnose the problem than to replace the piece of ****s.

Does the car shudder at 3000rpm?? It could be any number of things, try putting it in power mode (if your tricked up auto still has it) see if that makes any difference or just go to the wreckers and get another box and transfer all the shift kit and stuff over.

take the pan off and have a look. it might be something as simple as a blown gasket as this can happen. this would let the oil out and therefore letting the gearbox slip up. It will be slipping because of the low oil more than likely if it was reconditioned and hasn't been thrashed. You could take it into your mechanic and get them to tighten up the bands which would probably cost 100-150 bucks if that's all that's wrong. A new gasket and auto service kit costs about 30 bucks from repco by the way.
