I'm wanting to know this as well. My MF5 is behond stuffed at the moment and I really don't want to fork out for another MF5. I think syrus has done the conversion. I seem to recall him saying so in some thread.

the price i got to reco my mf5 was $1000, then i looked into getting a rb20 5 spd and it was almost the same price, jsut a touch over. i know that the synchros in the mf5 are better then in the rb20, the duel synchros in the rb20 are weaker then the single synchros in the mf5.

there the same size box, same size cogs. Rb20 silver top boxes have the extra ribbing and double synchros for 1st2nd should be better than the vl mf5 set up cos thats there weak point i've found. red top boxes are just the standard mf5. there still not a strong box tho

Ive done this conversion! MF5 --> RB20t box.. All fitted up fine.. only thing i replaced was the speedo drive for he mf5 one (so the speedo worked lol) and bent the slave line a little bit further to reach the (lower mounted compared to MF5) Slave cylinder.. Tailshaft, yolk, are standard Mf5

Hows the rb20det box feel compared to the mf5? Smoother? Better shifts?

mrclean86 has a r32 gearbox in his vl. Im guessing that is an rb20 one so shoot him a pm and ask him how its going. Goes pretty hard.

I would explode over the sight of my girlfriend getting oily underneath my car.

my bf helped but yes i did do this too was easy as was heavy though but went in smooth used the same slave cylinder as what was in the car. i was told from import yard that there is no diff in rb20/rb20t/rb25/rb25t/rb30 but rb30t box are diff. also rang holden an nissian an got a diagram of all gearboxes an there are allll there same size, the only diff is gearing inside. the factury turbo box in a vl is alot bogger an stronger thought imput shaft an output shafts as well. but over all dont care if its turbo or non turbo box as if its breaks ill buy another one as there is plenty around heheheheheh cheers for all your help

I've got one too. I paid 550 for mine. The slave is different to the VL one. But they both bolt on to the same mounts. Just swapped them over. Mine has the extra ribbing on the outside too. I was told it was an r32 box. It is definately smoother than my old mf5.
