Hey all, I have done a search and only found a few posts regarding the lokka. A few posts said not to get one if you are chasing any sort of hp. I have 300rwhp at the moment and hoping to get closer to 400. What problems have people been having? And people with good experiences?

VLHERO honestly man if you have no idea just dont post cause peoples heads are going to blow up from the stupid stuff you post............ the detroit locker how it works is you only get differental action when going around a corner because the way it works is it replaces your spider gears and has the 2 axels splined into it but when you go around a corner the outside wheel has to spin faster this is were you spider gears would kick in allowing the wheels to spin at diiferent speeds this is were the spools fail cause the wheels are spinning at the same speed putting tons of load on the wheel on the outside of the courner causing the jumping, shudders and scrubbing out of the tyres. with a detriot locker when going around a corner the locker will disengage the driving wheel due to the outside wheel spinning faster than the locker is its self alowing the power to be sent to the wheel on the inside of the corner. when these wear out they make a clunking noise when going around a corner other than that there quiet. now this is were the detroit lockers are better than lsd's when doing a burn out these will spin both wheels at the same speed alowing you to heat the tyres up equaly for better grip and the wheels will spin for as long as you want you could a burn out the entire length of your street and have both whhens spinning leaving somthing to be proud of. now with a lsd you can leave a nice burn out but the lsd wont stay engaged for ever and sooner or later a wheel will grip transmitting all the power to that wheel and while ur doing this burnout your spider gears are screeming there little tittys off and getting very hot and can get so hot the spot weld the self together and cause theres still drive going to the gears rip that weld apart leeving damage to the grears or they will just seeze up. A detroit locker is the best choice IMO for having a high powered street/strip or just strip car

why would you buy a lsd when you could put a spool in it or a locker. and detroit lockers make a dropin center for our crown wheels. and why would you put a patrol diff center in a vl good luck getting a diff ratio that would suit

And Patrol diffs have so many ratios available for them that its not funny, just look in the ad's section of any 4WD magazine.

DETROIT LOCKER this is a differential system that, instead of useing cones or clutch packs, usues a mechanical locker that still works as an open diff through the corners under light load conditions. In a straight line or under heavy load conditions it act as a locker through the use of interlocking gears that are forced together under load, locking together to turn both wheels at the same rate. Under light load they disengage for normal driving, however if u stand on the gas halfway through a corner the diff centre will lock up and throw the car sideways if you're not careful. this is a link to my detriot locker thread a while back with some info in there for ya. regarding the probs you might incounter like diff tramp. http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/showth...ghlight=locker (http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/showthread.php?t=79864&highlight=locker) they seem to be the diff to get but there not cheap i got quoted new $1750 to suit my diff but thats only the hemi.

"Lokka" is an aussie product, very similar to a couple of others out there (including one made by detroit). Mostly aimed at the 4wd market. They work by locking the axles together with dog teeth. There is a ratchet arrangement that will disengage the teeth to allow differential action. They replace the spider gears only. Feedback on them is pretty scarce. You might just have to try one and see. It's only going to be around $1k fitted.

a nissan patrol dif in a vl are u serious. they are a banjo style and masive and weigh more than a 9 inch. by locker im sure he is refering to a spooled or welded diff. not a lsd. you can get kazz mechanical lsd diffs to suit vl borgwarners. but the 1700 that i ithink they cost is sorta out of reach. just get a lsd for it, get the break away force uped to about 120 nm and just drive it. it will be verry tight and still retain driveability. it wont drive like a spool around corners and still give great traction to both wheels

i was thinking of setting a patrol diff up in my vk calais with a 4 link setup and then since i wanted to run airbags i was going to tap into the air tank for the bags to run the locker. Now trust me the ARB air locker is a strong item, i have been into 4wd for a while now and havnt seen anyone brake a air locker, if you need any more info on them go talk to any 4wd place and they can tell you all about them. tim
