hi i just bought 2 alpine type x 10"s they are rated at 1000watts rms each... what would be the best mono block amp to power these subs?

Budget? Rest of your system consists of? SQ or SPL or a mixture of the two? my current choise is the DD mono or the Earthquake for just straight out volume. The earthquake I have heard reports aret particularly reliable how ever. I would also look at the Treo monos - MMMM very nice and strapable. What voice coil config did you get (I'm unsure what the type X's come in). I know that Woody (current leader in CAASQ proshow in QLD) uses the alpine Monos with these subs with great results he uses the 12's however 1000watts RMS x2 you would want somethink like 2500 - 4000watts RMS availible to you if possible. EQ PHD5000 (depending on VC config) would be nice and cheap power availible from www.stereodirect.com.au (http://www.stereodirect.com.au) I've delt with these guys, nice guys, and they are the importer / distributor for EQ and PolkMomo amoungst others.

they are dual 4 ohm voice coil... i havent purchased the rest of my system yet... although the type x component speakers are on the list... i was thinking the rockford fosgate power series amp... which at 1ohm puts out 3000rms or i could get the 2000rms one

head to an Alberts dealer, they stock rockford, dd (only in cannington - the just got WA's only shipment in), clairon, alpine, eclips, dynaudio, MBquarts... if ur looking for at least 2000watts rms power to take advantage of the type-xs then talk to them they should have what you need. as for front splits, try not to go alpine (although it comes down to your tast in sound). there are better splits out there for the same money or a little more such which come from manufactureres who concentrate a great deal on just speakers (such as mbquart and focal) oh and rockford amps are quite good quality and more costly, so you have to decide whether you want something that will sound good and cost more but not have as much power as an amp that will cost possibly less, give more grunt, but not be as great sounding (think response!)

okay let me get something straight... ive never understood monoblock amps... when an amp says that it is rated at, just say 2000watts rms and i want to connect that to two subs... does that mean the subs get 2000watts rms each or is that number halved so each sub only recieves 1000watts? also... since my subs are dual 4 ohm how would i wire them and what ohm would the amp be running at?

the 2000 watts is distributed over the number of voice coils. IE 2 dual voice coil subs = 4 voice coils 2000/4 = 500watts each coil or 1000 watts total per sub. Thats provided that it makes the 2kw @ 1 ohm or 4 ohm (dependant on wiring configuration). 2 x 4ohm DVC subs is a bitch cause not all that many amps are stable at 1 ohm and SFA make much power at 4ohms

okay kewl theres a few floating around on ebay that are 1ohm stable... mite pick one of them up from the us... wat are sum good brands to go for?

Ebay = not a good idea give us a rough budget of how much you wanna spend and lets go from there.

whats wrong with ebay? i bought the subs from there...

Well just hope you got genuine Type-X's... On Ebay it seems that in the caraudio and entertainment section there are alot of FAKES. With my involvement in Car Audio Australia over the last few years there has been increasing numbers of these fakes. I have seen some of these fakes infact I have a set of ADS splits that another member gave to me after he was ripped off thinking he was buying the genuine article. On top of that with imports you may get slugged with Import Taxes. excessive shipping cost and time. Plus your not supporting the local industry. And you will NOT have a warranty - even if the seller says you do. Namely because very few car audio companys authorise online sales even less authorise online auction sales. So if you do have a warranty claim you will have to send it back to the seller (if the seller is contactable when you want to make a warranty claim) wait for it to be inspected and repaired (if they will repair it) and then sent back to you. I've heard reports of this taking inexcess of 6 months and because you purchased off shore theres nothing you can do about it legally (ive seen many try and fail) If you wana bargain check out the forsale section on www.caraudioaustralia.com (http://www.caraudioaustralia.com) or go into your local ADN audio store http://www.caraudioaustralia.com/for...howtopic=71013 (http://www.caraudioaustralia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=71013) in WA these are Alberts and AudioArt Buy right - Buy local, support those who WILL support you

are hifonics amps any good?
Hifonics make a 10,000 watt strappable amp (ie 20kw when strapped) And yes they are good - are they availible in australia - not to my knowledge therefore NO warranty Would i Advise you get one - probably not because if your looking at importing a hifonics amp from the state when you dont know much about them then it must be because its cheap therefore probably too good to be true. Especially when you could spend the money that a real hifonics amp is worth buying a ****ing awesome amp locally

how much is a real hifonics amp worth then? lets just say a 2000watt mono block one

about $1800 AUD plus shipping... And Taxes... Or you could get an EarthQuake PHD5000 for $1300 plus shipping or the strappable version the PHD10,000W/2 for $1430 plus shipping... thats buying it locally from the importer / distributor. I personally use an EX PHD10,000W/2 we burped and OzAudio Matrix Elite 12" Dual 2 ohm VC at 1ohm load on the amp in a 3cuf ported box and got 141.2 on termLab and that was in victorias leading SQ car in prostreet class... that was on its first run we've made some changes since then and were looking to get far bigger numbers next time were out. But at the end of the day the decisions yours. I would choose the PHD over the HiFonics but if i was looking at it from a V4$ point of view then i would probably just go buy the jaycar 1500watt mono and be done with it

hey i bought the hifonics generation xx hercules 2000watt amp... i think im gonna be happy with the results... also if i put this combination into a vl will the alternator be able to handle the load???

yep not a problem in the world go buy yourself a 0ga power wire kit (stinger aerpro crazycables etc) and run a 0ga from your battery to your amp (or distribution block if youve got multiple amps) then use 0ga from the -ve battery terminal to the cars body and 0ga from the -ve amp terminal to the cars body then run a 4ga or 0ga from your alternator to the +ve battery terminal and the same from the engine block to the -ve battery terminal. This is a basic underbonnet earth upgrade this is usually prevents the need to upgrade your battery (provided you have a reasonable battery to start with) and definately ellimiates the need for a bandaid *cough* i mean capacitor. (dont get me started on caps please!) Also make sure when doing your earths that you sand back the area to bare metal and place one of those washers with teeth that will bite into the cars metalwork and the ring terminal then seal with fishoil or primer and paint. 7/10 amps i see that are blown are due to bad earths. Rememeber that your using 0ga for the PEAK current demands, most of the time if your amp is capable of drawing over 200 amps it will realistically only be drawing around 20-30 amps mean average. This is why 4ga from your charging circuit is generally more than adequate. Oh and remember fuse within 30cm / 12 inches of the battery on the possitive cable. This is NOT designed to protect your amps thats what the fuse in your amp is for. This fuse it to PROTECT YOUR CAR from the risk of FIRE which can occure if the cable sheath wears through on any metal, this will cause a short circuit and either your battery will cook and explode and you'll have an under bonnet fire or the sparks will set something like your carpets alight and you'll have an interior fire. Use a fuse that is slightly larger than the combined fuse rating of all your amps this allows for losses though heat and internal resistance in the cable and will stop you from popping fuses constantly. Do NOT use a fuse rated at a current greater than what your cable is rated at other wise your cable is the weakest link and that isnt going to blow!

good advice komodowagon. as for splits, I've just got mbquart reference splits (RVF 216) put into a sound deadened door and they are great. i'm feeding them a total of 650watts rms @ 4ohm from an alpine pdx 4-channel (bridged) and it sparkles! because the tweeter dome is titanium, it's got that 'bright' sound to it that some people don't like. personally i don't mind. i think where mbquart speakers shine is with jazz music (james morrison's "Scream Machine" makes justifying a $900 amp and $500splits well worth it!). The midbass is quite decent especially if you want to turn it up at lower listening levels. gives a nice kick from the bass drum (think chili peppers - 21st century). oh and they love the power too! as for q-line (their best) i think that if you're looking for value from quarts, then reference is the way to go. it's a certain step up from their 'discus' range for only $150 more, yet not that far off the 'premium' range which is around $500 more than 'discus'. i can't speak of other speakers in detail because i have only auditioned them for a short time so I can't remember all the important points, however focals are a more mellow tweeter sound which many people like. since you mentioned the quarts q-line (about $1,100RRP) then i'll assume you want to spend a good amount on splits, in which case i suggest you look at the higher-up range of quality manufacturers. the mbs, focal, hertz, morrel... head to an alberts dealer and ask some questions about these! if a specialist dealer doesn't stock what you want to audition or ask about, head to one that will so they wont try to talk you into another brand. try as much as you can before you splash a grand coz splits are without dount the heart of the music reproduction! luck
