My car was doing this for a while man. Had to put a bit of throttle down to keep it going. But after a couple of min's was fine. Did a service, and now its fine.

im 95% sure its your AFM, got any mates with a vl? Drop by there house and borrow his for 5min and take your car for a drive and see if it makes a difference, my vl used to do that when the cable came loose on it..

its possible that you have a vaccum leak somewhere, check for split hoses. The ticking sound could be you injectors pulsing,

yeah i had a quick look at all the hoses thet look fine. and yeah i did a search and i think it could be my lifters making that ticking. thanks any other ideas guys its been like this for a couple of days and is really frustrating in the mornings. thanks again

ticking sound is just your lifters... Get used to it... Any your engine is near 20 years old, its not going to fire up and run like a dream straight away. Just keep it well maintained and hope for the best.

dont expect it to run like a dream but it just started doin it when my fuel pump shorted i think so it could be electrical just wondering if theres any auto electricians that has any idea what it could be. or anyone had the same problem. thanks

hmmmmm coil could be shagged, leads could be shagged or they are shorting out on the motor somewhere. Could be your CAS, did you check the bolt that holds the rotor button on is done up tight, it could be loose and causing it to fire prematurely or not fire at all. Also if your fuel pump shorted it could have fried the wiring so it is only carrying just enough power to get the car going, or the pump itself has stuffed up.

if the wiring is stuffed for the fuel pump why does it get better after a few minutes. ill check all that stuff though thanks heaps even if its not it atleast its cancelling it out. cheers Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
