Hey guys, My car wont start. I just changed my engine and its a series one engine with a series one car. It cranked over but wouldnt start, so i changed dizzy leads and coil and it sounds like its trying to start, because nows it sort of coughing. The F shape connector on the left side of the plenem, is broken, but i doubt that would effect the engine starting. Any ideas, greatly appreciated.

apart from CAS, AFM and all that sorta thing that everyone always says, i went through the process of the whole lot when my car wouldn't start but would turn over, it ended up bieng the injector reverse polarity relay which is in the drivers side gaurd. try change it with an unneeded relay out of fuse box plug it in and try, will eliminate one thing anyway. also its the relay with on orange (could be orange/black) wire going to it.

If it's coughing out the exhaust, it's firing on the exhaust stroke. Try rotating the dizzy 180 degrees.

sounds like timing, make sure you got the compression stroke, and right cam timing, the notch on the cam gear should be sraight up at the same time the balancer lines up, there is also a diode in the black wire hat comes from the reverse relay behind tha battery, could be broken as mine was. check for spark n fuel, also make sure you got the fuel lines the right way around as that can make it cough n splutter too. also check your earths - at least 3 wires... Good luck.

If its backfiring while trying to start, take the dizzy cap off, and make sure the screw in the rotor button hasnt fallen out... Happened to my car, it would make spark....try and kick over whilst backfiring, but not start... Put the screw back in, and it was sweet Otherwise, your timing is out.
