hey guys, i may be able to pick up some cheap lpg gear, so im thinkin of converting my cal to run on a straight gas setup and turfing all of the petty gear. i've been reading through a few of the other guys setups on here, and it seems that with the lack of IG5's, people are going full efi management... surely there must be a cheaper, less wasteful way??? i've been been browsing around and i figure that some kind of CDI like an MSD 6A or similar could do the job. Anyone have any suggestions on that? apparently a 6A can run any igntion system, ie, dizzy or COP.. since no fuelling inputs are needed to run an lpg system then i reckon that this should be able to handle it no problem right? whats peoples thoughts on this? oh btw, the reason why im concerned with it being able to run any ignition system is that will want to take this gear for my next car, which will definitely be a nissan or toyota.. so therefore COP will definitely be a part of it. cheers, -jimmy

Autronic do some nice computers. I had the IG5 but if I didnt I would of gone for a autronic for sure... And I just ran crane fireball Hi-6 ignition gear, with the LX 92 coil... Enough spark to kill you. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

installed ice ignition module/booster/coil and it instantly made a difference, the car ran smoother and also started alot easier being straight lpg compared to my MSD 6AL/blaster coil. its a bit on the expensive side but if you want the best then its worth it. as for an ECU, theres heeps of ones u can use link, microtech, wolf, haltech etc..

the autronic 500r unit does look pretty nice. ideally i dont wanna spend over 500 though. epitaph i couldnt find any microtech ignition computer, only modules that run with the ltXX computers. am i missing something? microtech wont list an ignition only computer, nor will they even say they sell one. i have sold 3 they made them custom for me. If you are interested in one, then pm me. I have one on my car, and have sold one to another forum member also. They are brilliant. if you dont want to spend over 500 dollars for anything though, then you are stuck as a spark booster (and thats ALL it is) like an msd 6al is pretty much 500 by itself. That wont allow you to modify the curve of the factory ecu either AND you will still have to retain the afm. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

sh it 1200 is pretty steep for something that old. yeah VPW i could be interested. right now i just wanna see how much to just get it running, coz i really just want to chuck all the petty gear incl. factory ecu. what inputs exactly does the ig5 use to run? coz i cant find any info anywhere coz its so old. im assuming only crank angle? if i can get away with just the computer for now then im happy. the CDI can follow.. surely the factory coil can be used with the ig5 right? -jimmy

you can actually get the vl dizzy changed over to full electronic by changing parts over from a holden 6 electronic dizzy, i'm getting it done to mine, quoted $380 if i supply both dizzys

rofl!! wellsy I bought it for $700.. and forked out 380 for all new sensors.. god some people love to pay to much. VPW, thats unreal that microtech will do the ignition only ones for ya, pm me how much they go for.. "If" :P I was gonna do it again, Id use Autronic more than likely, but the delco and link would be a good choice also. People say its a waste as you wont be using the fuel side of things.. but you can use the map for something else.. like methanol
