Hey all, i've got a bit of an issue with my auto and was just wondering if anyone has any light they can shed on my situation, cause i'm completely in the dark. My trans shifts around fine except for the 2nd to 3rd shift when the car is still a bit cold (so for about the 10-15mins of driving), i have found that if i get the revs up to about 3300 rpm, or 70km/h or so, that it will drop back down to third then to O/D, but if the speed drops to less than 60 or so it will jump back up into 2nd and stay there till 70km/h or so again. Has anyone had a similar problem or any ideas as to what it may be, any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Phill

Check obvious things like fluid level first....then make sure the signal line (vacuum line that runs from trans to inlet manifold) is connected properly and not split or damaged. I know from my own experiences they wont change into 3rd for ages if that signal line is not connected properly.

Thanks for the ideas, I checked the fluid levels and they are a little low, will top that up and see how it goes the next time i cold start and if that doesn't fix it i'll check all the vac lines. Cheers Phill

Hey mate, found out what the problem is yet? Because mine is doing pretty much the same thing, when going from 2nd to 3rd it revs up sorta and doesnt shift to top unless i really rev it. im thinking maybe that vacuum line, because i remember i had alot of trouble putting it back on when it came back from the rebuild. also, what are the two connections on the top of the gearbox for?

Hey mate, it still sorta did it after i topped up the trans fluid, but it's no where near as bad anymore, i haven't had time to really check the vac lines, but i reckon there could be a problem there too, I'll post up some progress so as to help you out too. Phill

these autos will not drop in to od when cold and they do funny things when cold. bad fluid and low bad fluid will show this more. also the vacc line is manley to jump in to od not to jump out ( i think i may be wrong)

Dont think he's talking about shifting into O/D, the issue is with 2nd to 3rd. Phillthy, make sure you check the trans fluid level while the car is running...

I have solved my problem. Make sure you check this straight away. Mine wasn't changing above 2nd gear at all and would only go to 1st in drive. The vacuum line off the back of the plenum is suppose to go to the shift valve on the side of the gearbox, but this was blocked off and the line went to the top of the box to a breather. Lucky i fixed it straight away, because it can stuff up ya auto pretty much straight away.
