righto boys and girls.i dont want opinions from pushbike owning wannabes, or armchair racers.i want cold hard facts from people who have hooked up a external gate turbo system on their vl. i have recently put on a monsta stainless exhaust manifold, monsta t3/t4, and xs power 46mm wastegate.ive made all pipes set up the screamer etcetera, and it all works fine.the problem im having is it just get really ****ing hot really ****ing quick.im talking glowing manifold and turbine housing after a 1km squirt.and its burning out gaskets.it reduced ultra copper to powder and flames in a short fang.and keeps blowing out exhaust manifold gaskets.anybody help me?
edit: by the way, i know the turbo and manifold are cheap ****,i dont need you to tell me this.

Have you had it tuned since you added the turbo etc?

man its a rusted out bucket of **** with a half blown mx7.of course it hasnt been tuned.im probably 250kms from a dyno and this bloke thinks you dont have to spend money to go fast.im just putting it all on so that i can get his old parts.the only thing i can think of is its running lean and that is increasing exhaust temps.but the air fuel gauge isnt reading lean.

Check your timing, if its well retarded it'll get hot just idling...have you changed the cam at all recently?

I would check the timing first. Set it back to 15Deg BTDC.
Then your right on the money, its sounds like it is leaning out. Be careful as it wont last long. What boost are you running? Do you have the external gate hooked up properly as it may be overboosting?

Pics??
Or are you 250kms from a camera as well.

one day , i pulled off the rooted t3,next day , i put on the rest of the bits.its on 8 psi, havent touched the tune at all, just new plugs, oil filter and oil change, and fuel filter.been talking to a mate mechanic with 30 years experience, and he reckons it could be leaning out for some reason,so ive just tried it with a different oxygen sensor, and also that the crappy standard exhaust could be restricting it and building up pressure, so ive dropped the exhaust at the cat.gonna take it for a run now and check it out.ill post a pic of the extreme heat when i get back

Nice, should be a good photo. Hears police sirens in background....

sorry boys no camera.but i can tell you it sounded good at 190 with a 3 inch straight out pipe and the screamer wide open.but, the ultra copper was burned to a powder and the turbine housing , manifold and dump pipe were glowing red.its got me ****ed.and i glanced at the a/f gauge a couple of times, was readfing right on rich/stoich.so the mixtures are pretty ok.anybody help?

09-08-06, 20:24 GMT+10#11 nup, water temp is fine, intake temp is fine, cooler doing its job great.im thinking im gonna hafta try and find a sheet of that steel lined asbestos gasket stuff and cut my own gasket out.or weld a better flange to the turbine housing than the 5 bolt peice of **** setup its got.
NEXT IS THE TIMING.thanks guys

13-08-06, 07:56 GMT+10#12 try not to look past the simple things like warped manifold flanges. monsta manifold is fairly thin. this glow is brobly normal. my standard manifold glows pretty easy.
I had a similar problem. when i fit my external gate. the wastgate flange on manifold warped from welding.

13-08-06, 14:02 GMT+10#13 ^^ im with him.
I've seen the cheaper manifolds glow in no-time.
Nice thick ones however dont heat up to the point of glowing red like the thinner ones do.
My Nismo manifold i never saw red. Whilst other guys would be red in a matter of seconds on a dyno.
