Hey guys.
Just cracked my head so i have another spare one i have had machined and is ready to go. Now quick question is i have a max ellery book which tells me to tighten
1) 29nm
2) 78nm
3)loosen
4)29NM
step 5) 78NM.
All sounds fine. Quick question is i'm being a bit cautious about it. At work we do head bolts up a quite a bit tighter than that. however after doing a search here people say that another manual specifies a final torque setting of 88NM or 100-105 with an angled wrench (Which i'm not using).
I'm just after some advice from people WITH experience doing a head whether 78Nm will give enough clamping force or to do them at 88NM.
Thanks.
you can't argue with the spec if it say 88NM, so thats that.
however an angle wrench is the only correct way to do the job, torque wrench are a dodge job if you ask me.
an angle wrench is only like 20bucks from the likes on kinchrome, get one for all the peace of mind of a proper head job
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
used a torque wrench and seen it used 100s of times at work with no problems. What i meant in my post is that one workshop manual specifies 78NM while the other specifies 88NM. My manual says 78NM while people here when i did a search said 88NM.
78-88NM is the official holden last stage torque setting when a angle wrench is not available, if that helps.
nissan don't give a last stage torque setting at all, because its not the best way of doing it and they want to protect themselves with warranty and failure issues. nissan state the last stage as approx 100-105deg.
