was doing a skid (in my skid car at arcifeild) and it lost heaps of power after about 1:10 so i stoped and drove off.. all seemed fine.. went to park up and stoped to talk to mates.. was talking and the car stalled.. temp was fine no knocks rattels any thing. now car will not start.. wen it cranks it seems to want to start then "free spin" like changes noise.. it also pushes air OUT the TB when it makes that noise.. any ideas?

if its coughing out the t.b its more than likely valves pressure test the cylendars

sounds like a timing belt! i know rb30's brake timing belt tentioner studs and then the belt jumps, lose power and valves kiss pistons! bye bye motor

valves cant touch the piston i thought, hasn't the rb30 piston got grooves in the top of it for this exact reason ?

Im pretty sure your right wilko... Dave check the timing belt.

most pistons have flycut's in them but that does'nt help if a belt jumps or breaks, the valve's definetly hit pistons if this happens, in one of my old vl's it did the same thing running fine, lost power, pulled over and it stopped? no noise and then it cranked over with no comp.....the tentioner broke and it threw the belt and bent all the valves in sayin that i also had a mate started his vl up and then it stalled? he picked up on it straight away and didnt try to restart it and sure enough it was the same thing!!! he was lucky and got away with just a belt and a tentioner and the motor still runs fine today im sure these problems are caused by people not nowin what they are doin and over tightening the tentioner nut and stretching the stud to near breaking point the only engines im aware are free spinners (engine will turn over if timing belt breaks without hitting valves) are toyota engines

thrashed motor eh?

Valves can and hit pistons. You have snapped your timing belt. good case scenario - you change timing belt. car works worst. you change timing belt, pull off head and replace valves that have bent

I thought the RB30 was a 'Non-Interference' type motor meaning valves and pistons cannot clash....?

a friend of mine snapped his timing belt tensioner, and it did not do any damage to the motor... it was replaced , and the car has been driving fine ever since... the car had similar syptoms described in your post.

well i know the timing belts not snapped due to the rotor button still turning.. if that turns i have a timing belt.. i also though that a valve or 2 could be jammed open ect ect

My mate snapped his timing belt on his rb30et at 100kph in 5th gear and it didnt hit valves. The pistons do have fly cuts but keen players will notice that there is 4 flycuts in each piston and only 2 valves per cylinder lol! If the valves were going to hit the flycuts wouldnt save them. considering that some guys hit the valves and some dont id say that it depends on where the cam stops as to whether there will be a disaster or not

how did u go broken tensioner which caused the belt to jump

probably not relevant but wen my dizzy had water in it car wouldnt run and was pushing air out of t/b..... hmmmmm
