Hey Dude's, was cruising TradeMe and found this. A chipped standard ecu running bigger + a extra injector. Can the standard ecu really do this ? of is he full of **** ? Did I waste $1k on a haltech I don't need....... http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...n-65088694.htm (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Holden/Engines-drive-trains/auction-65088694.htm)

extra injectors are dodgy.. There will allways be the person saying "Narr bro! i have 3 exta! run a flt 11 yo!" But it is dodgy.. no mater how you look at it.... And also the stock ECU is ****, haltech is alot better for more then just bigger injectors.. you didnt waste nothing

the haltech was money well spent buddy, dont take no short cuts to add more fuel, do it right Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

standard ecu no mater how many mods and chips ect will still be VERY limited power wise the haltec is not so you didnt lose nuthin man....

The main problem with adding an extra injecotor is that there is a chance that not every cylinder is getting adequate fuel to deal with how much air is being put in. Cylinder 1,2,3,4 and 5 may have enough fuel so car does not run lean but if there is not enough fuel to cylinder 6 for example you will have a nice hole in there. Best way is to spend the extra. Buy 6 injectors, and aftermarket ecu and a good tune and you will be set and know its done proplery

My mate's BT1 has two extra injectors, pushing 280KW, they work very well if done properly, You dont have to believe me but it will be running at calder very soon and I think people will be talking about the power out of the stock standard ECU I dont recomend extra injectors, but it can be done Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

At the Wheels, plus the tuner wants it to go on c16 for calder and thinks will break 300Kw

What tranny is it using and has the ECU been chipped or remapped?

It will only be dodgy if you don't set it up correctly. If you inject the fuel upstream of the throttlebody then it will have plenty of time to atomize with the incoming air and give a even mixture. You generally er on the side of richness to make sure each cylinder has enough fuel. Just think how LPG or carbies or early tbi works, its the same principal. Provided you tune the mixtures with a wideband oxygen sensor to check mixtures it can work well and reliably. Just don't be tempted to use dodgy Hobbs switches get a microfueller, something that give a little more control of the injector. All that aside however, if you have a Haltech you have an even better option.

So what are the AFR's like on the car on full song in differing gears? Anyway, good luck to him. Either way, as stated, for slightly more technical reasons than "pushing 280rwkw"... Its not the best way to go about it. Back in the 1990's when ECU's werent common, it was the way to do it. This is 2006. There is safer and better ways to go about it. Just read your reply. If you pay for a full rebuild, plenum, extractors, turbos... why would you skimp a few $$$ on management? amazing Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Oops, I was tempted, it works, but back in 93 when you fitted a T3/T4B Vtrim and needed extra fuel it was as good as it got unless you were totally cashed up as aftermarket ECU's were available but were prohibitively expensive. I'll agree it's not as tune-able as an ECU change but it is not unsafe if done correctly. As with any upgrade of the fuel system it is a matter of ensuring that the mixtures do not get too lean and as all you aftermarket boys know this is done on a dyno using a wideband oxy sensor or exhaust gas analyser. The same can be done for the extra injectors on the hobbs pressure switches thus ensuring that the mixture doesn't become too lean, the only down side is that it is momentarily too rich when the extra injectors fire. Mine are set to fire at 9psi and 14psi and are positioned pretty much above the rocker cover in the cross-over pipe which keeps things perfectly safe. The power output was measured at 320 RWHP with this setup prior to the fitment of an intercooler in 95. I've only done 300,000kms with this set-up, still the original unrebuilt bottom end and same turbo, using the car for everything from a tow hack for my race bikes and caravans, to the family wheels, drags and circuit work so what would I know...... If any-one wants to know more about the black art of the hobbs send me a PM and I'll tell you what I can about it.

So really not extravagantly more. What size injectors are they? And what are the AFR's as each injector feeds in on each gear? I wont go on anymore as i dont agree with it in principle, but thats not your problem... so i wont start a sh|t fight Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

indeed, more knowledge shared, more choices people have totally agreed RE: stocker ECU and its behaviour. I've used PowerFC's only and they are as good for idle/cold start/economy as the factory ECU Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
