Hey guys,
I am about to buy a VN Calais 5 Litre, it has done 240 thousand on the clock, owned by a dad dont think its been thrashed, would people consider this alot of K's for an 8, anyway i dont know much about v8's so any help appreciated.
Depends how much of a hard time it has had... the inj 5.0 im putting in my car has done 200k and id expect atleast another 200 from it. Theyre tough and 240 is nothing mate. If the car is generally clean and well maintained then it sounds good.
the k's u never know, a motor can die at 20,000 kays and others can go on to 450,000+
just drive it and see what its like, youll knwo if its tired..listen to the idle, check out the exhaust see if theres much smoke e.t.c
very nice cars. personally 240k wouldnt bother me at all as the car is 16 years old the average is around 15k a year so 240 is right on par.
Personally I would go for a later model than a vn as I have heard that they use the same floorplan as vb-vl. Hence the boat-style handling. Vp's onwards have a wider track so the handling is much more improved. Im not sure on this as I have only been told by a mate but I think it may be worth considering for the extra money it mite cost to get a vp calais. It would be good if someone with better knowledge could confirm this as I am interested in knowing. But yeah those holden v8 motors are tough as. 240k is pretty much nothin as long as it has been serviced correctly and hasnt been taken to redline a million times.
yer we had a vq stato none of the electricals worked the car had been smashed twice everything rattled but the motor kept on going an dad gave it a good thrashing lol
haha yer they do go very well evan when half ***ed i had a bt1 vn at one stage and kept oiling up the 1st plug {rings ***d]got a hotter plug and it still went hard as hell also had an ss with 300ks on clock wound that off clock runin an r33 left it 4 dead haha top mtrs to.
