When i take the key out of my ford laser, the motor keeps running for another minute before turning off. The whole engine shakes for the minute also. I took it for a tune and the guy said the i need a new alternator and it will be running perfect but i dont see how a new alternator will fix the problem with the engine not turning off. Is he full of ****???

The timing is out if its 'running on'...just stall it if its a manual keep your foot on the brake and ease the clutch out until it stalls. Alternator....haha.

could also be hot bits of carbon in the combustion chamber somewhere that are glowing hot enough to ignite the air/fuel. pretty much a glow plug and a deisel.

if it is carby, there will be an electronic needle solenoid at the back of the carcy underneth somewhere that shuts when you turn the key off, these get crap stuck in them and the hot carcon as mentioned above is igniting the fuel that is still getting sucked into your engine. disconnect this plug and pull the valve thing out and clean it. do this before your engine tries to turn itself inside out.

Dont worry about it, all good race engines do that Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

The problem was the alternator, it was stuffed so it made the choke stay on all of the time. I have changed the alternator and it works fine now.

I was going to say my mazda did that, and it was the alternator.

I read it was the alternator, but if it ever does that just turn the headlights on and the car should die. Had a few cars at work that are like that, its not our problem to fix but that's how we turn em off!

My rodeo did that. Who would think the altenater would do that.

I can't see how the alternator alone would cause it. Even if the choke stays on you still need ignition, which is off regardless of any problems with the alternator.

My girlfriend had this happen to her car when it overheated really bad one day. Apparently depending on the timing if the car is really hot it can also happen.
