<< moderator note: this has been split from the dyno day thread >> What sort of power you blokes making? Come on show us up with your highly underestimated RB30ET's... There was a little controversy last year as a one person came from other dyno making 30-40rwkw more and then ran away having a cry; another ran up up his LS1 and made a little less but thats dyno's for you. Shauns does tend to read a tad lower than some. Its definitely not a happy dyno. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

yeah rite... a little lower??? meh... that persons car read lower coz the tuner detuned so sum1 wouldnt lean on it 2 hard... original tuners dyno or no dyno

In the end its a tuning tool, i can't understand why everyone gets so caught up on these 'figures'

yer but were they on the same day ? nice power too champ Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

looks like john's reads higher to me

yeah what he said

im very impressed with those figures from the mentioned workshops, 5kw is stuff all, shows no one is doing a dodgy around here Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

well then u will need back to back dyno day and on the same day, from the two i say boostworx and then hitech . as for johns dyno many know it is a low reading dyno so i think that on any given day if u did both dynos johns would be lower .but in saying that johns dyno and blackwood dyno only read like .2 out from each other when i had mine dynoed .

So all those that replied after. :P Its a pitty the vl vs skyline dyno day is off. Shaun tunes to flat 12's and in my experience the timing is pretty spot on, throw another 1 degree it won't ping, another 2 degree's and it will. Shaun knows how to tune well and not pop motors, he has quite a few rb's pushing over 300rwkw on std internals. I've had mine on the blackwood dyno then straight on boostworx and there was 1rwkw difference. :P Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

rob as you probably don't know as you don't tune cars, you have to enter the temperature and humidity of the day in the dyno settings so it will automatically correct the dyno read out. otherwise in darwin they might have the same car as yours but only make 230kw because 40-50degrees compared to 30 here. Alot of tuners are lazy when it comes to this

well if alot of tuners are lazy when it comes to entering the temp and humidity of the day into the dyno settings, then that could possibly explain why there was a difference between the two readouts....

I think the readings are more to do with the gearbox/stall/diff combination of any given car....and whether the air temp, humidity and all those other 'correctable factors' are entered accurately and not manipulated to create a favourable read-out...mine put down just over 200rwkw on Johns dyno but I ran 115mph and prolly would have gone 1-3 more mph if my stupid trans was changing gears when I asked it too...not many VLs I know run 115mph+ with a measly 200rwkw. On another note, do you tune cars Corran? I know you were 'dyno hopping' there for a while trying to get the biggest rear wheel figure possible, well so it seemed...maybe that motor wouldn't have gone pop quite so soon if they hadnt have leant on it so hard...? Dyno figures are wank, end of story. Converters kill dyno figures in most Auto cars dependant on converter brand etc...so stop the bitchin. From my own experience there is no accurate comparison possible between an Auto and a Manually equipped car on the dyno end of farkin story.

who cares about dyno figures... its the time down the quater that counts.

yeah that most probably is the reason between the readings rob. Darren when i just cracked 200 kw i had run 111mph but was only 13.4 due to open wheeler n no slicks. but thats manuals for ya. I had my car set up on boost worx dyno because i didn't want to tow it 200km's away just for a tune at my mates place. It was after it was drivable is when i headed up north for $80 tunes instead of $350 ***** that. as for dyno hoping i have only been on 3 which one was bill towler at a car show. Don't know how much you expect out of a rb30 with way over 300,000k's on the clock. but it lasted 15,000km's with 20psi.

technically it wasnt 300,000ks old tho corran. as u replaced the bottom end bearings in it didnt u? and maybe rings aswell? cant remember what u told me... but that would of helped it along and made it last longer.

Like I said...you cant compare Auto and Manuals on the dyno mate. Manual will always run slightly more MPH than a comparable Auto aswell. Mine made 243rwkw as a manual before I had the motor rebuilt.....

A bloke I know Andrew picked up a rb30e bottom end with 270,000km's on the clock, dropped an R32 RB25de head on it and would up the boost on his highflow and made 240rwkw for ~20,000km's. He then dropped on a gt35r would the boost up and made a shade over 300rwkw for another 20,000km's. Last I heard he was pulling the motor out (still running well) to sell the car (R32 skyline) as rwd + 300rwkw + 5speed = no go. So he's in the process of dropping the rb30det in to a R32 GTS4. The old Rb30's are tough nuggets. Wyndup, after you dropped the auto in.. Rolling and punching it did you notice any real drop in go? How about fuel economy? Yes I know its a performance car but there's no reason why you can't achieve good economy from a turbo motor providing its sensibly cammed and running reasonable injectors. Its drop a decent rb25 box behind it or put that money towards a tight auto. I've been thinking about dropping an auto behind mine as the manual isn't too launch friendly. Just worried fuel economy will go to crap. I currently get around 10.6-11L per 100km's.
