June 11 2006 - Perth AME show spectacular
This weekend saw some staggering figures at the dyno comp staged at the AME show in Perth. Competition stalwart Eddie Tassone’s twin turbo Commodore ute had the crowd in an absolute frenzy after reaching an indicated 1643 HP in its first run of the final. The second run brought the house down with what was thought to be a world record of 1895 HP!
The crowd had given Eddie a standing ovation before the final when it was revealed he had worked on the ute for over 60 hours straight to prepare it for the competition and the result seemed more than fitting to the emotionally hyped audience.
In the end it was revealed that the inlet air temperature indication was very high – thus raising the dynos’ power calculation. An examination of the results by the software techs at Dyno Dynamics revealed that the final run might not have been a world record but would almost certainly have eclipsed the national competition record by a substantial margin.
Given that the final run was terminated by Eddie prior to maximum safe RPM – due to the dyno displaying a warning message – the power that may have been achieved on the day will forever remain a mystery.
In any case, Eddie Tassone has once again shown his undoubted ability and dedication with another dominant performance. Dyno Dynamics congratulates him and the event organisers, AME, for putting on a great show.
The car has a 383 stroker V8 (based on the old Holden 5.0L block) with twin turbos, custom cam and manifold using 40psi and C16 fuel. Apparently they backed off before the redline because the engine was leaning out due to the fact it was not tuned properly (they only put the engine together the day before the event), so it only revved to 6500rpm, and the dyno graph indicates it will keep going
And didnt TRYHRD spend like half a million on his setup, while tassone mangaed a **** load more power, with only a holden block

id take it with a grain of salt for now, its been argued to death on other forums and the general comments are that it is not a genuine figure... who knows
either way its still a holden block and yeah tryhrd has spent half a million on his setup and doesnt get even close to this bad boy rofl...

just look at the IT
I doubt the IT was 230 degrees

Yer ive seen it, what a scam, easy way to double your output by doing that!

What does it do? They pump hot air into the intake and it affects fuel ratios i gather??

Nar you just stick the temp sensor on the exhaust manifold.
She'd be an expensive foot stool with 230 degree inlet temps, molten piece of scrap metal.
Is AT on the dyno print out, 'ambient temp'? lol if it is... his cooler must be sh1thouse :P

Nah, when its not hooked up properly, the IT automatically defaults to 230

Basically leave the intake temp probe somewhere hot... as you can see to the left the ambient temp was only 19 thats a big descrepency!
they do this to achieve a higher reading
Forget the dyno See you at the track I say!
Dyno's are a good tool if used properly............IF

that too
cheers

Interesting. Does it cause a computer error causing a higher reading or does it stuff around with engine management? Although dyno wont control your ECU so it probably wouldnt.

not that im a massive fan, but no VL has or ever will ever come within a spec of dirt off tryhards undercarridge with regards to build quality.

02-08-06, 18:07 GMT+10#16 yep, news flash for some, vl's are not the best car in the world.
i think this thing actually made a legit run of 1400rwhp or there abouts.

02-08-06, 18:19 GMT+10#17 he definately made 13** at summernats, who knows and who cares really... i think most ppl are over dyno queens, its such a lame theme they should just setup the car and the arse end and send it down the track and it'll really impress people. like we've said, TRYHRD, this and rapid8 should be forgetting horsepower heroes and tubbing the **** out of the cars fitting a pair of crazy fat slicks and put that power down and run 7's .. seeing consistent passes like this is going to wow people more than seeing a number pop up on a dyno chart.

02-08-06, 20:24 GMT+10#18 Out of everyone, Tassone is the only one who has actually raced, with an 8.1@176mph when the motor was in the VH. That mph shows that it was capable of a mid 7sec pass. This new setup is definately good for quicker passes

02-08-06, 21:03 GMT+10#19 he made that pass with a detuned motor too

02-08-06, 21:51 GMT+10#20 as is often the case, it's not reall about who has an extra 100hp at this level, in reguards to the strip i mean, heaps of cars out there with more power than they can put down effectively.
