Well it's been 4 months now after purchasing a car, and i recently received a nice letter in the mail from the state revenue office, stating that during the purchasing of the vehicle i apparently understated its value which has resulted in a ammount being owed.
Basically, i rang up and you are able to send a letter of dispute, basically saying that the vehicle purchased was below average in condition, high k's, faded paint etc etc.
Has anyone ever done this before, as i want to know what the chances are of getting it lifted. Because this fee is paid at the time of registration, the car has to be to a roadworthy state, therefore what else could i write about that does'nt fall onto the mechanic that issued the roadworthy?
Any ideas would be awesome
Thanks in advance.

How much did you say you paid for what sort of car?
Tell them the car had different coloured panels, the interior was dirty, stereo didn't work, anything else cosmetic... the roadworthy doesn't take into account how nice the car looks, only that it is safe to be on the road.

Thank god your n13 sss has faded and crapy paint, crap mag wheels, stuffed interior, stuffed exhaust and the tint is falling off, roof lining is falling off, the jvc and jbl stereo has been stolen, and no cold air intake.
If not, they will want money or blood. They are like hounds, they keep after you if they think you own them money.
Get to work on you car mate.

Just tell them its what you paid for it and thats it. And if the other guy who sold you it can confirm it then you should be fine. You dont write what you paid for it anyway the other guy is supposed too.
You can undersell cars and you can oversell them. i doubt you would get a letter if you sold it more than what it was worth and they would refund the difference. Tell them to jam it up their ass.
Its the same if you swap a car, they work it out on market value. It's a lot of Sh!t because it didnt cost you anything and it wasn't sold.

They can't do that, the seller could've been your cousin or other relation, and have sold you the car on the cheap...

Just write back saying you dont owe them a thing as you paid what the car was worth.

30-07-06, 21:04 GMT+10#10 In vic, on the transfer papers it asks for the market value of the car not how much you bought it for. So if the car is worth 10k but your cousin sold it to you for 5k your still supposed to put down 10k.
Now in saying that, i have never ever done that and never will lol, i have always helped the buyer out and put a much lower price to save him money.

30-07-06, 21:20 GMT+10#12 yea when i sold my vl for almost 6k i put 2000 on the papers to save the bloke a buck. when i registered my r31 i claimed the car at time of registration was worth 1000. never heard anything back from vic roads about either cars.
if you put down somthing silly like 100 then they'll question it.

30-07-06, 21:48 GMT+10#16 this is the first time ive ever had this happen to me, i think they have finally started to take notice of this little system.
the thing is, after months of owning the car, they send it out now, pricks
just so u guys know, i paid 2k, wrote down 2k, but the market value was apparently 3.6 so ive just finished writing a letter of objection stating the condition of the car at the time of purchase.
heres the jist of the letter:
"The vehicle was in a rough cosmetic appearance, the paint was faded on sections of the car, mainly the roof. There are several dints in the paintwork and also the shade of paint differs in certain sections of the vehicle. On the inside, the interior was dirty, cigarette burns and stain marks on the seats, carpet and lower quarters of the dash. The upper sections have also been affected by the sun, with small cracks and the finish looking dull. The vehicle also came with no stereo or speakers, as these were removed by the seller prior to my purchase. The doors were also very rough, missing attachments such as book holders and speaker mounts. The vehicle was also missing a parcel shelf."
thats all i could really think of without going to far and looking dodgy
ill post it tomorrow and see what happens.
funny thing is they picked the one where i didnt do a dodgy lol

31-07-06, 11:01 GMT+10#18 Tell them that the car was obtained by barter.
You swapped a pool table, a 400mm garden gnome, and a pair of goats for the car. But you eventually got the gnome back by negotiation, after complaining that the diff was noisy and the radio did not work.

31-07-06, 11:07 GMT+10#19 I recently received the same letter.
My girlfriend purchased her 93 lancer off her sister for $500. Obviously this car being worth 2-3 thousand in good nick.
I went down and complained to vicroads and said that the girl said nothing when we went to transfer it and we paid out fee. They just shrugged shoulders and said 'state revenue office makes up the rules' So i had to agree on a value to put down with them and pay the difference. It's a load of crap. They didnt even give me the option to dispute, just said 'you have to pay it'.
They said market value is 1600-3000... pick a number.
