Gday guys, Im building up a car and the stereo is in and i want to see if it works. The problem is my wiring in the car isnt really done so ive had to try and connect them straight up to the battery. Ive found the positive terminal at the back of the head unit and connected that to the battery. Also i have connected up the negative to the battery. Then ive connected the amps up to the battery and the grounds of the amps to the chassis. This isnt working as the headunit wont turn on and there are no lights on the amps?? I just connected the remote wires up the the battery and the light comes on on the amp but the headunit is still not turning on?? Im am not 100% sure ive got the negative off the head but im 90% sure im right. Would that be it?

did you connect the accesories wire too? That triggers the Head deck to turn on when you hit the ignition dude. All the main power wire is for is to keep you setting in the Head deck. Clock, and bass and ****.

To run a head unit You need -fused constant power which is normally a yellow wire (which you say you put to the battery, you should be careful as there is no fuse there, if something goes wrong theres a chance your headunit will go or atleast the fuses in the headunit) -accessories which is normally red (to find this you will need to test random wires with a test light and if they only light up when you have the key turned to accessories and not when the key is out then thats the one you need) -earth which is always black wire (connect to any direct metal place - ensure contact point is sanded back to bare metal and is free of paint n dirt etc.) To run amps you need -An inline fused Power wire (thick red cable - inline fuse to be withing 30cm of battery contact point) -Earth (thick Black cable - ensure same as 'negative wire' as mentioned above) -remote wire (blue wire - which is the signal wire from the headunit which turns the amp on and off) -RCA cables (generally blue with plugs on each end - run from headunit to amp which sends the 'music' from the headunit to the amp which trasnmits to the speakers - make sure is as far away from the 'power wire' as possible) Hope that all makes sense.
