Is the oil pressure sender on a gen 3 behind the starter? and how do i test it?
The reason i'm asking is the oil light doesn't stay on after i turn the key on and don't start it. Does this mean there is a problem?
New motor and I want to know it has oil pressure before i take it for a rap.

the oil pressure sensor is directly behind the inlet manifold, very hard to replace get at especcialy if u dont have the special socket. What car is this on, ive found generally if there is a fault the oil light will constantly stay on, what car is this on? take it to a holden dealer and they will be able to tell you.

the oil pressure switch is behind the manifold and you need a special socket tool to undo it or you will have some trouble, but im pretty sure the oil pressure sensor is at the back of the manifold aswell but more tucked under and lower and you need to remove the inlet manifold to get to it.
i spose you can test for voltage at the switch harness while ur ignition is on.

that is correct the oil pressure switch is behind the intake manifold on the top of the block on the back of the fire wall, a real pain in the arse to remove, i made up a tool out of a spark plug socket and a hex socket with the head cut off it and welded it onto the spark plug socket then all you need is a extension bar and a ratchet this will do the trick, i will get the hex socket size for you 2morrow.
if this switch is stuffed the engine warning light will be on constantly even while driving hope this info has helped you..........

At work we lost our gen 3 oil pressure switch socket, so we just replaced it with a large deep socket, I'll find out the size tomorrow if you want.

from memory the size is 26 or 27 mm. the oil light is meant to switch off after the ignition is cycled on. its doing a self check. if it turns on after starting then you got a problem.
