I cant find a thread that could help me, i only get 150kms out of a tank. When i start the car it smells like petrol for about 5 minutes, dunno if thats normal. And my car idles at 0 and dies when im sitting at a stop light. Whats wrong Any ideas? thanks Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

fark somethings up mate. try afm... look for fuel leaks as well. injectors are pretty prone to leaking.

sounds like the rubber lines near the tank are perished and leaking, look under it when its running and see if there is any fuel leaks.

id be betting a leak near the tank or some where in the fuel line, park your car some where for an hr. then idle it for 5mins then move it forward and look on the ground, pop the hood have a look at all the injectors when its running

Check Injectors Check AFM Check ALL fuel lines Maybe replace O2 Sensor Check for any tank leakages It might be best to get the car serviced and tuned.

Other things to check on the list Check all your intake piping, if there are any leaks it'll run rich and hence chew juice. Check your coolant temp sensor - they can create issues AFM etc as the others have said.

hmmm i had this same problem when i put an xf throttle on my n/a.. still don't know what the problem was.. but i ended up taking it to get serviced and tuned.. they said my crank angle sensor was stuffed but i dont know if that had anything to do with it.. but it ran well after i took it in (350-400kms to a tank). But yeah.. mine would die at the traffic lights too.. would have to have foot on the brake and the other on the gas to keep it from stalling.. (auto by the way). Sounds like airflow meter or CAS to me..

I had a similar problem, there was sooo much pressure in the fuel system that it sprung a leak at the damper just after the HP pump. It would carry on sometimes at the lights until it finally died. Got it to mechanics and they changed the ECU and it was fine for 10km's then died again. Got stuck in the middle of nowhere when just going for a quick "test run" (bad idea to head towards the bush LOL). Got it back to the mechanic today and they swapped the whole distributer and it is sweet now, even picked up a little lost power. In other words it wasn't burning all the fuel that went through and blew big puffs of black smoke and coughed and spluttered.

just got the car back from the mechanics today, got a new AFM and some sort of censor (temperature sensor or something) and its running beautifully! no black smoke and fuel isn't being chewed, thanks to all for contributing!

My car runs ok now (when warmed up) but also is using a tank of fuel for 200km's. I have had changed- ECU, Fuel filter, pressure regulator, distributer, internal fuel pump and coolant temp sensor. I used to get 350-400 K's from a tank before I had this pressure reg die and cause the internal pump to sh1t itself. My new pump is heaps louder than my old pump too this one sounds like Buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz (constant) but the old one was like Buzzzzz buzzzzz buzzzzz sort of sound, what do your pumps sound like??. Should I change my AFM? The mechanic said it tested fine. Can they test fine but still be faulty? How much is an O2 sensor worth? oh and there are no visible leaks in the bay or at the tank but blowing black smoke when I boot it. I was thinking about taking it to JPC or bresciani or rajab ya know at least they would know about all the vl faults that are common, more than what my sh1t mechanic does "Buy a ford maaate" is what he reckons. I just bite my tongue Cheers guys.
