What alarm system are you guys using here? Are you still using the original cobra or have you updated to something a little better? My alarm doesn't seem to do a thing. The controller has two vertical buttons side by side. I only recevied the stock standard car key with the car and nothing else. Is there an overide on the actual unit to disable the system / to reactivate it. Did the Cobra immobilise the car and would this pass as an approved alarm by most insurers if I could get the thing up and running again. Sort of annoys without it as the central locking is obviously tied up with the alarm.

When i first bought my Walky in 1997 the factory Cobra alarm didn't work so i had a Mongoose alarm installed. But now i had to upgrade to a Mongoose 3 point alarm for insurance purposes(Shannons)as of this year.

I think in the glovebox, there is a key hole. If you have the key, you can enable/disable the alarm from there. That's the way it was on my VL calais, and I think they are the same alarms?? Open the glovebox, and look at the top of it, near where the light is. See if there is anything there. But it's a 18 yr old alarm, I'd be spending a few bucks, and getting a very good one installed, if I was you.

Yeah well I think upgrading to a current alarm wouldn't be such a bad thing at all. Although I've heard of a current GTS being loaded on a flat top from a shopping centre, alarm goin off, with not a single person even giving consideration to the fact that it was being stolen in front of them. Makes you really wonder sometimes.

I don't think there is any need for that. It's all very common info. If he puts in an aftermarket alarm, and has it done properly, then it won't matter anyway. It does make you wonder, but most people are too scared of what will happen to them, if they say or do anything. All comes down to laws not being tough enough towards the pricks to steal cars. My thinking is if they really want your car the professionals will just tilt tray it away.I had a mate who drove from Bris to Bathurst couple of years ago in VN Group A,parked in general carpark, watched Holden win again only to return after the race to find his car missing.Hope i never have to go through that or anyone else. The days of leaving your pride and joy un-attended while out are over.

Yes, I won't be leaving my walky anywhere I can't see it. Certainly no car parks. It sucks, but just what you have to do to protect and keep your pride and joy Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Yeah you're dead right. Unfortunately that's what we have to deal with. Imagine alone how much the motor, injection and interior would fetch without any effort what so ever.

I'm thinking of stamping/ingraving my initals on certain places of my Walky so if it ever does get stolen and pops up on Ebay in a million pieces that way i can inform the police to sus it out(thats if you are the sucessful bidder).Had similar incident years ago with my CD collection, after hunting 2nd hand shops i recovered 60CD's out of 100 and they went to court. You could always hook a grenade with piece of fishing wire to steering wheel, just don't forget its there when you drive away lol.

Instead of your intitials it would be better to engrave the cars VIN number or even the build number in the form SV###. Corsa

Your idea sounds the go Corsa, hopefully it never comes to that but the more you do to prevent them getting away with it the better.I wonder how many of the Walky parts on Ebay are genuine sales or from cars that were stolen?

I use to take my Walky grocery shopping and to the movies but wouldn't be game now with 19"wheels and the market value rise.Like i've mentioned before you really need a 2nd car when you own a Walky.Luckily i use my road bike for everyday use and the Walky only comes out on weekends or special occasions. My Dads Walky is original as but i haven't noticed the glovebox/key thingy(his cobra alarm doesn't work either)
