well i want to know what the best setup is to run a ipod??? i already have 2 10inch subs and a 1000wat amp but i have a good head unit and a dlo fm transmitter..... what is good if i wanted to ditch the fm stuff or what is a good head unit if i keep it

Just look for head units with enough RCA's to run the amps your using (unless you're planning on piggybacking the amps). Otherwise check out the head units that are Ipod adaptable. (usually have that little Ipod logo under the picture in the magazine). They all do basically the same thing, buy the ipod interface and off you go. I didn't think there was much difference, just depends on what you wanna look for in a head unit. (eg. preset eq, or adjustable, etc etc) looks, styles. Your transmitter, are you talking about the ipod's "Itrip" transmitter that comes over your radio? Is that the question you're asking?

Itrip no but it is similar and i would need to controll all 4 speakers not just the front ands the back but the fm transmitter i would like to keep just wanting a powerfull deck here is the link to what the transmitter is like http://www.smalldog.com/product/40787 Quote: Originally Posted by dylan Just look for head units with enough RCA's to run the amps your using (unless you're planning on piggybacking the amps). The best set up for ipods is to more modern setups, where i can i set them up so you can control the ipod from the head unit controls or steering wheel controls, Mazdas are the best for this atm, you can then leave your ipod away from site and it will charge at the same time

Alpine have some award-winning HUs with iPod interface. You could pick up the Alpine CDA-9856i for about $450-460 at a hackle or sale. This has 3 pre-outs @ 4 or 5 volts i think. You can simply attatch your iPod to the plugs which come with it and store your iPod in clove box or somewhere and control it from the HU. I'm gettin one in less than a week. I've heard that Alpine are probably tops for integrating an iPod into your car, so if you have the money it's well worth it coz it's a good HU, too...

if you intend to buy a headunit with ipod interface, so that you can control the ipod through the headunit, i would not suggest a normal single DIN h/u, scrolling through 5000 songs is hard with single line displays, and is very tedious, id recommend a touch screen, otherwise, stick with just plugging the ipod in through an RCA /headphone adapter Ken

agreed Ken.. sort of. it is annoying to scroll through like that, however double din doesn't mean it has to be the way to go. You can get alpine ones which show 2 or 3 lines at a time (2-3 songs i mean as you scroll) but still that's annoying and they're pretty up-there in price anywayz. you could alwayz connect ur iPod and have the iPod sitting in like a cup holder or whatever for weasy scrolling. The sound quality is not as good if you plug in your iPod using the headphone jack. The SQ is top notch though id you plug it in properly through the bottom of the iPod. There's a big write-up about at this link. Worth reading for a few iPod questions answered.... http://www.caraudioaustralia.com/for...pic=58276&st=0 (http://www.caraudioaustralia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=58276&st=0) Cheers

if you have a pioneer deck with an IPBus socket on the back - you can make an ipod adaptor really easily with a couple of old computer 'jumper' style plugs and a 3.5" headphone plug. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

All of the eclipse range are iPod compatible, so you can get there cheapest headunit which is probly around $200 and then the iPod adapter which i think is around another $200. So for $400 problem solved.
