How to remove and change a steering column! Tools used: 13mm Spanner 13mm socket 8mm socket Flat head Phillips head Steps: Step one is to remove the under pan above the peddles to reveal all wires and so on. also remove the plastic steering column cover. now you can remove your steering wheel/bosskit, you can also remove the ignition barrel from the column. This can be seen at another one of my expert tech articles! http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/showthread.php?t=31352 I didn't remove my indicator stalk till after it was out of the car.. doesn't matter when you do it really.. Now with the 13mm socket you can start removing the column. First there is 2 bolts right under it as you can see in picture There is 1 more that needs to be removed.. It is the worst out of the lot to get out.. as you can see i used alot of extension bars to get in there easier.. you can see were it is in the pics.. now your column will be really loose, you can remove all the side plugs as they will fit the dash if you cant lower the column Only 2 more bolts to go. The last 2 are in the engine bay. It is a nut and bolt, So stick your 13mm spanner on one end and jump under the car with the 13mm socket and start removing them. Make sure you take them all the way out as it is grooved and wont come off till full removed... (ooh! note that some cars will only have 1 bolt there.. I think thats for non power steering cars.) there is also one big black plug that covers the fire wall hole. That is just zip tied on and may get in the way when removing the column now all the bolts and nuts have been removed and column will just slide straight out. once it is out put it next too your new one and see if the bottom half is the same. If not there is a nut and bolt that changes that. now just reverse all the steps and put it all back in. Its pretty easy to do by yourself, took me about and hour and a half to do and that was trying to work out how to do it and taking pics. Thank you. Matty.
