hi,
im looking at upgrading to a ball bearing turbo, want to make 300-350rwhp mark though i want the least amount of lag as possible and for the power to be very drivable. has any one used one of the smaller garrett turbos to this effect, any help would be much appreciated. oh and my set up consists of manual, t3 hiflow, cooler rajab plenum, bigger fuel system, microtech.
cheers dan

you should be able to make that power with your setup atm in a manual with a highflow and 16-17psi or so.. unless its a tiny highflow
i got my manual vlt dynoed at 180rwkw on 13psi (using standard cat.. boost dropping down to 10psi coz of restriction.. got a highflow 3" cat on it now so should be at around 185rwkw)
all i have is 13psi boost, fmic, 3" exhaust, malpassi.. using standard turbo ecu and plenum..

yes, the turbo is more than capable, though i want some thing that is more efficent at moking boost and with less lag.

Ummm... mate I don't think you will find anything much more responsive then your highflow.
You'd be nuts to spend the money on a differant turbo when your current turbo shoulddo it easy on 16-18psi. ???

agree with Hilly on this ................. but if you must upgrade go a GT30 with a .82 rear or even better a .63 rear will make bloody crazy on the street

14-06-06, 17:25 GMT+10#11 gt30r are an awsome turbo my mate had one a while bac runnin around 18psi through an auto it made 300rwhp and came on way earlier then a hiflow which i had at the time in my car,it was almost instant, from memory it had a internal gate with a .70 front and .82 rear
idd go one for sure as the hiflows runnin that amount of boost everyday dont last as long either

17-06-06, 12:32 GMT+10#13 it would be great if a few people with ball bearing turbo would post up there power and drivability with wat mods and even a dyno graph, i think this would give me a better idea of what certain turbos are capable of.

17-06-06, 12:56 GMT+10#15 as mr hoon said above
i make 300rwkw with a gt30 with .8 rear.
response is amazing , my old hiflo was way laggier than this thing , the same goes for grant (tempest) he has the same turbo in a manual car and it drives merkedly better than the old hiflo.

18-06-06, 23:03 GMT+10#18 what would be best for a 'fairly stock standard' vlt? - with a frontmount, 3" exhaust, and generally everything stock. running between 10-15psi atm with standard T3.
i think im able to strap on a hi-flow'd T3/T4, but i'd probably need to lower the boost and get the a/f checked on the dyno.
but after reading about this GT30r, it doesnt seem to be that 'large of a turbo', would i be able to strap it on and would it be good? until i got more money to upgrade my fuel system, injectors ecu etc etc?

19-06-06, 16:44 GMT+10#19 is the gt30 a bolt up or reqirs an aftermarket manifold, but in any case a turbo change requires modifying of all piping and hoses to so would not be a simple upgrade like a hiflow.
