I have a Walkinshaw that I have had for about 10 years and I am thinking about selling it (not that I want to, but gotta move on). I am hoping that I can get some feed back from all you Walki enthusiasts out there as to what I should advertise it for. It has about 136k on the clock (it had about 95k on it when I bought it) and all the miles I have done have been in the country no city miles worth talking about. It's in good condition as it has been kept in a garage it's whole life, paint work needs tidying up due to stone chips etc, from high speed country travel. But here comes the interesting part at about 60k the whole drive train was replaced by Bill Lee with that of the VN GRP A SS ie; 6 spd ZF gear box, 3.45:1 diff and a new motor with the slightly different twin throttle bodies but all the same internals. A different cam was added and tuned by Bill Lee achieving just over 230kw on the dyno and a whole heap of torque. I have since changed the final dif ratio to 3.9:1 to make 6th gear more user friendly. Any constructive feedback from this thread would be greatly apreciated.

It's not original anymore so you wont have the die hard collectors wanting it, post up some pics, specifically of the paint needing fixed

I'll add some photos when I get a chance.

They go well for their time. Just because you haven't 'speced' the motor doesn't mean you can't still enjoy the car for what it is.

My comments have nothing to do with power output it is about buying a car that you can use and enjoy without having to worry about puting too many Km's on them or getting them wet in the rain, etc. My comments were not intended to be derogatory as I believe each to his own and as Yeti pointed out, this car would not suit a "die hard collector".

Your setup is certainly a little different though. What do yoy reckon you'd do the quarter mile in...low 13's...specially with that ratio. You should at least obtain 30-35?

Not sure of the times, but before I changed the diff ratio I use to get heaps of wheel spin, but now with the new ratio it launches realy hard. The 3.9:1 ratio matches the 6 Spd perfectly in take off and high speed cruising.

VN SS Group A Walkinshaw??? 30 to 35 sounds a bit rich to be honest, because at the end of the day its not really a walkinshaw.. its a bitza. would you pay good money for a doberman cross bully?? No you wouldnt, because mongrels arent what enthusiasts look for. an original walkie with will get you $30,000 to $50,000 a VN cross VL will get you... a yellow sticker.. id maybe say between 15 and 25.. being generous

Nice reply mate, very constructive. Guess you won't be ligning up to buy it then. Heres me thinking what a magnificant motor car I have and how privileged I have been to be able to experiance owning it and all along it turns out to be a mongrel piece of c**p only worthy of a yellow sticker. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Just cos its not boring stock standard does not mean it will go for very cheap. Im no walky expert but id expect somewhere from mid to low 20's to low 30's

Regardless of what motor it has in it, without at least providing the original matching number block you have wiped some dollars off its worth. Also buyers of such cars are interested in how many k's are on the clock, as they are not daily driven cars the fact that most of the k's were done in the country is irrellevant. If you have the original block and box it would still get you about 25k, but without the block you would be lucky to get low 20's. Granted it sounds like a fantastic car, that box and motor combo would be lightening in a VL, however at the end of the day without the original motor it is no longer a matching number vehicle.

When HSVSS (black walkinshaw, Calais front, group 3 grille) belonged to Anthony Fabris, it had a tough 346ci motor and 6 speed (later powerglide) massive brakes and antera 18" mags before it was sold for around $50,000. I remember this coz i saw it at the nats back in 1997/8 and considered it when it came up for sale at the same time mine did. Ppl will still pay high $ for modified ones

can I ask a really stupid question - why would you make those mods to an original Walky in the first place? you'd have to know that the resale value would suffer!

From the sounds of it the car in question needs some work to bring it up to top notch condition. It's a pitty it doesn't have the original gear, but it's not like its had a stock 308 and trimatic thrown in it. I think you should get high 20's up to 30K for it if it presents well other than a few stone chips and the obvious motor change. Is it in good condition otherwise?? Interior, momo wheel still there?? Do you have all the original paperwork?? Stevie.
