So my fuel pump is starting to really **** me. The thing whines like a bitch all the time when the cars on, no matter if its full or empty. I've had all the fuel tank out, changed every single one of the hoses before the fuel hits the fuel pump (they had fallen apart) and i put it back together and it seemed to stop making the noise. I get about half an hour into driving it again and the pump starts to hum and buzz again. Heres the thing though. The "tone" of the whine changes when i: Apply and Release the Brake Pedal Turn on the Headlights Put on High Beams and Dip High Beams And pulses in time to hazard lights. Is there anything i can do?

The tone changes because of the power drain on the motor. The only thing to do is to buy a new fuel pump around $120 i think, i did that and now my only whines (loudly) when it is below 1/4 tank.

But then why the change in pitch when operating headlights, indicators, wipers etc??

But whats wierd is there are days when its loud as ****, And then there are the days when the fuel pump is as quiet as a mouse, when you can stick your head right under the guard with the car idling and not hear it, and then go for a drive and not hear it. Doesnt matter what amount of fuel is in there, the thing still drones or stops droning whenever if feels like it, and the tone changes, when it is whining whenever any other source of power is used

As DaveB said pay the money and change it !. I take it that it is getting on and if it is making noises it sounds to me like it is becoming unreliable. My mate replaced his when his car was running like sh%t and he found it to whine. He bought one from the wreckers and it also whined. He thought wtf and sat in my car and heard the little whine when ignition was on and then nothing when I drove(That was a wagon too you can hear them more in a wagon cuz its all open). He sprung for a new one and never had another problem, noise and running wise. It turned out both the original pump and wreckers pump were on their last legs. So the moral of the story is replace it and stop its whining and then we wont have to hear your whining lol Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
