Hey admins, whilst I understand the need to lock threads that are amply covered elsewhere, I would like to wave a friendly protest flag at the locking of those threads that relate to fuel economy. I think it's desirable and important that we all share this aspect of our cars once in a while, not just to help keep our fuel bills down, but for environmental reasons as well. Perhaps even set up a seperate board for fuel economy topics were we could share engine components, setups and tweaks v. economy figures.

I used to get 600 kms to a tank in CEPTR. But that car was dead stock., no mods whatsoever.

We lock them because it's surely better to do a search, then just ad to an existing thread on the topic that everyone can scroll through anytime. Otherwise we end up with lots of threads on the same topic and info doesn't get shared properly.

Thats a fair enough comment, but the 'human' factor needs to be considered. Threads have an 'expiry' date, can become too long, contain redundant information etc. A forum is a place of text oriented converstaion. People like to start new conversations, not listen to recordings of old ones if you know what I mean. As for lots of threads on the same topic, I consider fuel economy to be a very broad genre. There are many things that affect fuel economy and I still suggest a board where ideas, components used and results etc. can be exchanged. For example, in the recent locked thread, YEP boost mentioned how he got 650k's on open road. I was keen to quiz him on that, engine type, setup, drivetrain etc. I expect the only reason he mentioned it was because a new thread had been started, prompting him to share his experience. Conversely, he may never have hunted down an old economy thread to add his experience to the end of it, especially if it's already a long thread. A seperate board would also help in threads not being 'lost' amongst many other theads on different topics.

I dont think hes complaining about high fuel prices etc, hes just interested to know how people have kept there fuel usage down with mods etc. But I sorta stopped reading, because he seem's way to smart for this forum lol. I guess its up to the mod who closes the thread to determine etc, but we dont need a new economy thread every 2 weeks to see if anyone has any new information lol Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

its all been covered b4, and if your not willing to sift thru the threads to find what you want to know you must not be that interested in knowing the answer then. But on that note in power absolutely flogging the **** out of my car adn revving it out all the time I get a bit over 300k's around the city. All I have is extractors and a 2 1/2 inch exhaust.

Yes you are right, flicking through an open thread that grabbed my interest and provoked a response like this one! I completely agree that this should be a valid and informative topic so that we can share ideas on what sort of mods have an influence on our fuel consumption levels for guys who drive their cars on a day to day basis. If we can help guys make the power they want whilst not hurting the hip pocket as much then i think it is worth it! Besides an interesting an informative read about a relevant topic that does not turn into a slanging match or My DOSE is louder than your DOSE article of utter bull**** for childish f***s! Seriously it makes us all look like a bunch of ****wits with nothing good to say! Back to that 650k's VLHDT86, I did that about 2 yrs ago now on a road trip to Adelaide before I rebuilt the car. At that time motor had done 350000 ks, and the std auto was slipping.Got awesome k's on the trip over as well but on the way back I filled up as I left Adelaide before you head out of tunnel, sat pretty much on 150ks all the way to the border and then back to 110 in vic down to Ballarat where i refilled. And it still showed 8 litres in the tank. Then I rolled into Melbourne. The car had a 3in exhaust, modified airbox, std auto(slipping in top under high load) and was running 9 psi with std 3.45 rear end. I was very happy with the k's and possibly could have stretched a little further but didn't want to have to push the VL home . It was similar on the way over as well but i filled much earlier and it is uphill all the way out of Melbourne so it wasn't as good but was still over 500k's. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

thanks for the update YEP boost and your support. Your country trip has set a new benchmark for me. I'm lucky to get over 500k's open road, which is still not too bad anyway.
