ok... this may sound stupid to some, but can you intercool a non turbocharged car? i have been thinking about it alot lately, because i dont want to turbocharge my car, but i like the look of the intercoolers... lol i am aiming to have the exact oppisite of a sleeper car, because it is my first car and i just want it to look kool pretty much, it still isnt finished so i can turbocharge it if i wanted i just dont like the thought of leaving the car running while the turbo cools off. Your help would be MUCH appreciated please
thanks

what he said
there wont be anything to force the air through the cooler. so it defeats the purpose of having one on there. It has been asked before so dont feel bad about asking it.

just fix a cooler to you car without attacking the piping anywhere, that way you still look cool.

LoL. This is a joke right?
At the end of the day you can do whatever you like, however if you do go ahead and put an intercooler on a NA car, then you really are a fool.
Surely you can find something worthwhile to spend your money on, what about one of those fake BOV noise maker things?

All these people saying there won't be anything to force the air through the cooler. What are you on about?
A NA engine develops vacuum. Air will be sucked through the cooler.

i was just wondering if it would affect the performance of the car by putting an intercooler on a non turbocharged car and ifso, in what ways

what about when your at WOT and have no vacuum, whats going to "suck" the air through the cooler?
as far as i know atmospheric pressure is what gets the air into the cylinders although i dont know how it would work with a cooler.

very true, but if he just hooks a CAI system it would serve more purpose than the interooler. The distance the air has to travel through all the pipes would not be at all benificial to the engine. It would probaly have more of a negative effect, intercoolers serve a purpose, they are not for bling factor.
Buy that mesh looking sh it or those bars that the excels put on, save your money....

You can do it but prepared to be laughed at by everyone that knows you are driving an NA car.

28-04-06, 10:38 GMT+10#13 it would probably be more of a restriction than anything on an NA car.
that and it would look fully sick bro.

28-04-06, 10:41 GMT+10#16 i googled it and i got a link to another forum, it says
"Yeah, you could connect the intake to the inlet of the intercooler and the outlet to the throttle body. However, on an N/A it wouldn't make a difference, in fact it would be a restriction in your intake doing more harm than good. It wouldn't be able to cool the intake charge anymore than it already was. The reason they work with a turbo-charger is because the turbo-charger heats up the air."

28-04-06, 10:58 GMT+10#19 see sonny you should of just listened to me, thats because of boyles law: when air gets compressed it heats up....hence the cooler cooling the air...
Its amazing what an environmental science degree can teach you......
