Hey all,
I didnt really know where to put this thread as it is kinda n/a 3 litre related and also V8 related so i just put it in here as i am from NZ anyways and i may need so local help.
Anyways as the title suggests, i am thinking of undergoing, well an engine swap really! I have an n/a RB30 powdered vl calais which is my baby that i have been slowly yet surely building up - now everything is complete apart from the engine side of things. I thought about a turbo, but its just too much pissing around in NZ, not enough local shops and **** to help out on such projects.
Moving on, i have recently purchased another vl calais with a mildy worked 308 and a shift kitted turbo 400 box. the new car looks alright, but it just doesnt compare to my original gal and it doesnt have my personal touches on it - so i've decided to undertake an engine/gear box swap.
The plan is to swap the V8 from the newly purchased calais and fit it into my old calais. Then put the RB30 into the newly purchased calais and sell that in order to recooperate some of the costs.
Now i know the main pain in the ass will be the wiring, hence the carby'd 308 vs the injected RB30. However i would like people who have completed such and engine change or something similar to please note down the issues they faced whilst doing such a conversion.
The newly purchased car was originally an RB30 also, however the owner before the guy i purchased it off converted it to the current 308 setup. An auto sparky did the wiring, so it is all very tidy in one main loom through the engine bay and into the fuse box. But im concerned it will be a little tricky to remove the wiring loom as a whole and install it in the other car. And i don't have any idea how i'm gonna wire up the RB30 into the other car as all the wiring will have to be swapped and pissed around with.
Well this is quite a ramble i have going here... to cut to the chase; could people please add their comments on problems faced or possible shortcuts/speed ups that can be taken to avoid taking weeks to complete.
Thanking you all in advance,
Jay
