As being the last person to do extensive mods to a VL of late if you dont have $10,000 to spend or want to spend that much I dont think you will have much change left after doing what you want.

i had initially budgeted $10k for motor & install and paint. i'm quite prepared to spend the dough as completing a project car has been my goal for the last few years. the more it costs, the longer i save! i also has a substantial amount in reserve for all the extras such as new wheels, tyres, bumpers etc. sounds like i might be on the right track, but i really need to know which places are going to give me a good job for my money.
cheers

hahaha ^^insert shameless plug here^^, nice article on the car tho, nyle would probably be one of the best to get a combo like that going hard, although north shore reco have done a few skylines, shop around and find out whos done them before, the biggest name might not be the best to do it either.

i'm planning on pulling the old motor and box out myself, but i'm not really mechanically minded enough to put a new one in and make it work! i'm gonna have a stab at upgrading all the brakes, fitting new rollbars, fitting bodykit etc, but at the end of the day i want a reliable daily driver, and don't want to spend a year getting everything done!

maybe cause brakes are pretty straight forward where as an engine need wiring etc, just a thought.

08-05-06, 07:07 GMT+10#11 furryfrog - you got it about right. i've pulled a couple of motors out before - obviously not entirely by myself - but figure it aint gonna be that difficult - i can spend as much time as like doing it and it wont cost me a cent! as with the brakes i'm doing the VT upgrade and kinda hoping the kit comes with instructions! i can figure out most things, and the whole point of the project is to learn new skills. the reason i don't want to put the new motor in is because i really have no clue about automotive electrics and don't wanna have to shag about with modifying mounts, yokes and the like. everything will checked mechanics for the certificiation at the end of the project
