Hey guys in response to the discussion about the cheap candy paints and how good a quality they are, i thought i'd post some pics of my g/f's car that i just sprayed with the paint with pearl candy's from the states. It's on a custom base which came up better than expected. The total for the job was roughly around $300 from start to finish. The product is of very high quality and at the price it is you can play around with any colour you want before you get the colour your after. cheers Nick

that turned out bloody awesome, good stuff mate. I would be interested to hear more about your project in terms of paint choice and how you actually went about painting it. but yeah good stuff mate looks tops.

well its all in acrylic instead of 2pac as it was the cheaper option. when you get the pigment it comes in 25gm bags which mix in to about 1L of clear. i used 3 bags in 3L of clear. The car was originally white. rubbed back with 800 wet and dry. 2 coats of the base coat. rubbed back with 800 again. 3-4 coats of the colour. 4 coats of clear. rubbed back with 1200 then 1500 then hit it with meguires medium cut compound then showcar glaze then deep crystal polish then wash with gold class shampoo then mothers carnuba wax. the basecoat will remain somewhat of a secret as i want this colour as a one off. still trying to think of a name for it. any suggestions????? hope that helps you guys out.

That turned out really nice well done What sort of colour depth does it have? With out giving to much away is that over a light or a dark base? I found that over a black base turned out better that over a silver base. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

ill leave it to nick to tell what he has done as a base ect if he wants too. but from what we have seen so far it looks amazing. the finish and shine is great, bec n me are still yet to see it in full sunlight. our order arrived today and we will be using the Cold blue steel candy from paint with pearl in the states also on my vl for starters and seeing how that turns out its really amazing thinking only a week ago it looked like any other white vn staion wagon but now it is truly one of a kind that stands out. from what it was to what it is now all the hard work that nick has put in has really paid off Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

hey guys, i had to dig this one up. i'll hopefully be re spraying my car at the end of the year if not earlier and i was wondering if anyone has used any alsa products? i'm thinking about a blood red candy with a fuschia flake through it (maybe). it cost about $69us for an 8oz concentrate which should be more than enough. any how heres the link. http://www.alsacorp.com/ cheers Nick

A bit of topic but can I ask what compressor size and gun you used and stuff? I go on Uni holidays in 3 weeks and I plan on respraying my bumpers in asteroid silver (Acrylic, ofcourse). Would I need to put a clear coat over the top aswell. What kind of pressure does the gun/compressor need to be set to. By the way, car looks really good. Thanks in advance, Jason.

i used one of the 40L supercheap compressors and a 2mm gravity fed spray gun. i suggest you clear coat them, they look heaps better. oh and the pressure you'll just have to play with. not too high though or you'll be forever rubbing back and polishing.

Alright thanks alot for that. Think I might have some fun doing it. Also would it be easy enough to do the roof at the same time? Because when I got it sprayed 6months ago the sprayer done a **** job and you can see the spray marks which either indicates the pressure wasn't high enough or he hasn't put enough coats on right? How much time is required between the color to spraying the clear coat on? To redo the roof I'd just have to sand back with 600 or 800 wt n dry and pretty much spray on a coat or 2? Jason.

Jason. the roof shouldnt be too hard to do. hit it with some 800. by seeing spray marks i assume you can see through the colour??? if so it'll need a spray, if its just overspray then a cut and polish will do. you wont have to clear your roof if the rest of your car isnt clear coated. between colour and clear providing its above 20 degrees i'd say roughly half an hour between colour to clear.

Thanks alot for your help man! Yeah the rest of the car hasn't been clear coated. The bloke that sprayed it didn't want to put clear coat on, think's its a waste of time (but truly, I think he was just f*cken lazy). But yeah you can see through the paint, pretty gay because the rest of the car is shiny. I will give it a go these holidays. Again, thanks for your help. Jason.
