ok here is what ive got. its different to what is described in the other thread being s2 into s1. the s1 loom only has a big single pink wire going to the fusebox and the s2 loom has 2 small ones coming from the ecu. there is obviously a problem here but i just dont wanna hack into the wrong wires what wires should i connect?

I'll double check, but I'm sure that the ecu always has power on the main wires, and sits in 'standby' until it gets the 'start' signal from the ignition key. When it gets that signal it powers up and runs the fuel pump for about 5 secs.

ok, not quite like that. the ignition switch puts power onto the pink wire which feeds to pin 34 on the ecu. that in turn tells the ecu to operate the efi relay and the contact of that relay powers up the ecu. On SI's, the pink from the fuse box connects to the 1st pink wire from the right [next to the brown] as shown in you pic and that goes to pin 34 on the ecu. With SII's, they must have moved that 'pin 34' wire to the next hole [your 2nd pink from right] which is why the ecu wont power up. What the other pink wire is for I can't say, but looking at the SI wiring diagram, all pink wires in the vehicle are the 'ignition busbar' so if your 2nd pink from right goes to pin 34 of the ecu, then you should be able to just link the pinks together and it should work.

ok well i bit the bullet and rewired the cars original loom to include a detonation sensor. here is a tip for anyone who wants to wire a detonation sensor wire into a na loom. i had an old na loom which i cut up. i pulled the afm wire out of as it is a shielded wire. it also has the correct pin on the end so it will just push into pin 21 on the new na loom. to get the pin out of the sacraficial loom i gently hit the clip with a hammer untill it fell apart and i removed the pin in perfect order. push the pin into #21 on the clip at the ecu run the wire through the loom(i drilled a hole through the big rubber gromet and fed the wire through it) solder on the detonation sensor plug at the end. dont forget to earth the shield(external) wire its a cheap and easy way to do the job if you have an old loom laying around

Quote: ps would that be bypassing the fuse at all? No it won't. theres one hefty pink wire running from the ignition switch to the fusebox which feeds a few fuses, and everthing else hangs off the other side of those fuses. Pin 34 on the ecu plug is the 3rd wire in from the outer most end on the row opposite [away] from the release clip, in the outermost connector of the two that sit next to each other....erm....yeah....when you find it you'll know what I mean! lol!! Good to hear you got it sorted. But do yourself a favour, and get rid of that 'scotchlock' joiner. They have no place in a high performance vehicle . Solder and heatshrink/tape is a more reliable option. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
