did any factory vl calais come with boot carpet that covered the sheet metal behind the back seat? Others have suggested they might have - series II perhaps?
I have this colour/style of carpet in my boot [pic] Has anyone seen this colour/type of boot carpet in other calais'?
It's a soft plush grey/white mottle with a black fleck. looks original, wheel arch pieces are moulded exact fit and cut, plus the floor piece has a small rectangular piece of carpet sewn to the underfelt on the rh side which matches to the piece of velcro stuck to the floor pan.
The series I parts book adds to the confusion. For the interior carpet, it quotes different part numbers for all the different interior colours, but for the boot carpet it only quotes one part number for each piece of carpet, which suggests all boot carpets were the same colour [understandably]
But other calais boot carpets I have seen are a dark grey in standard looking loop pile??

yes, it was a seperate piece that had a bit of chipboard stuff adhered to it It was pushed on with plastic clips. I've only had S2 VL Calais' so not sure about S1's
Yeah rest of the carpet (which is all rolled up an stored in areas around the shed due to custom install) is a dark grey, can't remember if it's loop pile or not.. I'd err on the side of not though.

Mine is a series 2 with a sandlewood interior and it has grey boot carpet with nothin on the sheetmetal behind the back seat. It also looks more solid grey than white and black mottle it also has sound deadning on the underneath if that is any help. I'm thinking yours maybe aftermarket or a retrim job. What about the seperate peices of carpet on the wheel arch and peice on the back where the taillights are?

Seems you may have a rare option there if it's factory

Hey Jordy, is yours all exact cut, fit, moulded and with the tailight piece?

yeah mines fully moulded exact fit to the wheel arch's and shock towers with the RH wheel arch piece extending right around the inside of the back 1/4 panel to the tailights. All velcroed in place, no glue.
I've rung around all over the place and no-one I've rung can do moulded boot carpet for a vl. Non of them have moulds of vl wheel arch's so atm i'm semi-confident it is factory but the colour and type of carpet is curious.

by whats in the parts book and by the responses here that would seem to be the case.

hmmm.....another one with back seat sheet metal carpet, the plot thickens. Maybe it was a dealership option?

Nope mine is just the regular berlina carpet that covers the floor and the spare wheel. But it's definitely that colour.

21-04-06, 16:30 GMT+10#12 all the wheel arch carpet and tail light carpet are velcroed on, i checked the parts catalouge at work and the moulded carpet around the wheel arches are a genuine holden, i will have a look to see if the carpet on behind the seats is in the catalouge aswell.

Yeah thats the interesting bit, you'll have to look in the later print of the parts cat. which covers both series I + II. There may be an extra part listed for 8VX SII
Hey girl torque, your orig carpet looks the same as mine - mottle plush pile.
There are some carpets available that are close to this kind of mottle plush, "Torrens" by Nylex and another company is one which is listed as a 'hull' carpet, not quite as dark though. Then there's another [cant think of the name] which is a bit darker than the Torrens but still lighter than the Calais. Both have a very similar plush pile as the calais.

22-04-06, 12:10 GMT+10#14 Okay, the final printed parts book shows the following as available -
SL & Exec
Light Grey floor mat only (possibly Series I's like mine).
or
Dark Grey floor mat and seperate wheel cover.
Berlina & Maroon Group A
Light Grey floor mat with attached wheel cover.
or
Dark Grey floor mat with attached wheel cover.
Walkinshaw
Dark Grey floor mat with attached wheel cover.
Calais Series I (pre-option V5F)
Light Grey floor mat with attached wheel cover.
Light Grey wheelhouse left.
Light Grey wheelhouse right.
Light Grey rear (tail light panel).
or
Dark Grey floor mat with attached wheel cover.
Dark Grey wheelhouse left.
Dark Grey wheelhouse right.
Dark Grey rear (tail light panel).
Calais Series 2 (Option V5F after April 1987)
Dark Grey floor mat with attached wheel cover.
Dark Grey wheelhouse left.
Dark Grey wheelhouse right.
Dark Grey rear (tail light panel).
Dark Grey rear seat cover with two clips (this bit does have a fibreboard backing to it).
One thing I'm supposing here is that as the Walkinshaw carpets and the Calais rear seat cover only come in Dark Grey that all Series 2's only came in Dark Grey. They make no distinction in the book but it would look a little weird with a light grey boot and a dark grey rear seat cover. Looks like Light Grey was dropped sometime around April 1987 when the Calais Interior Upgrade mods went through, though they may have continued on lesser models until stocks ran out.

23-04-06, 10:41 GMT+10#17 Carly's car is a Series 2 so that would explain the rear seat back piece.
It may actually be the dark grey, just a bit dirty and overexposed by the camera flash.
Either that or GMH were offering a light grey rear piece that they've now deleted from the parts book, which would be unusual as they normally show what was offered regardless of whether it's obsolete or not.
I'll take a pic of mine today with the flash and see what it looks like. I bought all the pieces seperately back in about 1990 and fitted them to the SL. There was only the dark grey offered then.
