I am proposing alot tighter viewing and thread starting/replying restrictions to those people that dont want to fork out the Silver or Gold for membership.
Reason i am proposing this is so that the likes of sirgeo can afford to be able to spend more money on upgrading the calaisturbo server.
Restrictions that i am propsing would be as follows.
1. Viewing to be restricted to calaisturbo.com.au and website info sections only.
2. If $10 membership is paid then minimum of 20 posts required to post in classified sections
3. If $20 membership is paid then no restrictions in the classified section.
4. PM's Cannot be sent till either Silver or Gold membership is paid
5. Trader rating is not available to non-members.

Can u explain No1 in more detail.
2. so as a silver member and been using the website for over a year i would have over 20 posts so i can use the classified section.
Altho if i just joined and needed 20 posts i can just spam up 20 posts?
3.doesnt make sense cause that would mean , someone with no website history can pay $20 and instantly get acess to members section. Then we have tools in the members section (not that it dosent have tools there already)
4. What if a non member whats to pm me for something im selling??? Im not giving contact details in a public viewable thread.

I don't agree with any of your ideas. I believe that what you've said won't really encourage people to become members, but perhaps encourage them to leave the site?
1- They've been allowed to view these sections for over 4 years, why change it now, many people will just stop using the site.
2- This is pretty pointless, people could just post 20 times in the regular section in order to gain the right to post in the classified.
4- You can't send a PM to anyone unless you're a gold or silver member?!?! How are they going to PM SirGeo in order to ask for gold or silver membership? Or communicate with others on the site for that matter?
5- What happens if you want to purchase something off a non paying member of the site? You won't be able to see into the person's "background" as to wether or not they have had positive or negative experiences with transacting with people on the site.
As I said, this is just my opinion, but I believe if you impose this on people many people will stop coming to this forum as well as stop using it...

don't be silly as of X date increase initial silver or gold membership like $5 or similar, then each subsequent payment is a flat rate of $10/$20. there will be an increase in cash flow to sirgeo and a surge in memberships prior to the date.

I think all you Players are wankers.
That is all haha
I reckon if you use the site, ever get advice, or ever sell or buy anything on here.
You should support the site, that is all.

1 - What?
2 - Stupid, We should be thankful they actually gave money to the site...
3 - Stupid, Gold membership gives you a ct email address - simple as that...
4 - More Stupid, That is only going to create more whoring with people on here because some are too stupid to use msn...
5 - Even more stupid, The trader rating system is used both to prase and WARN others of the style in which the person does business - many will be screwed out of hard earned cash because they didnt know the player was dodgy...

For no.1 there is a section within the website called "calaisturbo.com.au" it nis the section that has VLturbo discusion, VL non turbo discusion, other car discusion, V8 discusion, Car audio, stolen and website feedback. This is the section i am refering to. This and the section website information should be the only section to be able to view by non members.
for no.2 ok yeah maybe this is a bit harsh
for no.3 ok yeah this would be disreguarded if no.2 was disreguarded.
for no.4 simple solution, PM's can only be sent to admin or moderators of the site untill membership is paid.
for no.5 this is not stupid or pointless as non members would not have access to the classified section till they payed membership therefor they would not be able to buy or sell anything on here.
All in all i guess those that have been paying for there membership dont want to see a better website from there membership money.
i like TRJBT1 idea whereby once you join the site you have X ammount of weeks to become a member or these restrictions will be put into place.
So thing about it as has been said on here many times before, have you ever had advice from someone or learnt something from others on this website that has saved you $10, then why not repay that back into the website to help keep the site running.

As a non-paying member (although I think I'll invest in the future) I agree completely. Plenty of other commodore sites about if this one is a hassle to use

Most of the stuff I look at here is purely out of general interest (note I don't have a VL and don't intend to own one). I post when I think I can help.
If the technical section is no longer available then I simply wouldn't come here.
Limiting the usefulness of the site is IMO a good way to kill off any variety. Casual users will dissapear and you'll end up with a very small, concentrated group of VL enthusiasts.
To be honest, paying for access to the technical and FS sections doesn't really represent great value when you can have the same or better for free on other sites.
Rather than tightening the site up, i'd think it would be better to try and build the community up so there's more people that want to contribute.

19-04-06, 12:50 GMT+10#10 Thanks for your input but I agree with Jet and Daz. Your proposed restrictions will never happen because they encourage users to leave and would be detrimental instead of helpful.
