Hey guys, Considering you guys are so helpful just have once again another queston for yas... My bt1 runs with a hi-low switch. 7psi on low and 16-18 on high (still trying to put my finger on it) and im pretty sure i have a stock computer... is this damaging to the engine on High boost and also i have an extra fuel injector that is connected to my piping.. ive been told that its a strange thing running an extra injector with a stock computer and was thinking should i have another ecu for just that injector... any info will be a great help coz the last thing i want to be doing is building another motor for my pride and joy at this stage... Thanks boys

well the factory fuel system is good for about 14psi so i would say that your 16psi is about spot on for an extra injector setup. while the extra injector setup can work well it can also work poorly depending on how it has been setup. if you could get some pics of the injector and also the wiring it would be good

nah its probly not running off an ecu but off a hobbs pressure switch. its not advised you run that amout of boost on a stock fuel system my sugestion is chuck it on a dyno if it leans out a bit winde down the boost or put a bigger injector

it could have a piggyback computer and a maybe fuel lifter/defender.

If your funds allow a decent aftermarket ECU then that would be a more wiser choice then risking high boost on a Factory ECU and Rebuild of a New Motor.

An extra injector regardless, still runs of the factory computer, it still uses the factory injector pulse width, the hobbs pressure switch just turns it on and off. unless you use a microfueller, but if you are thinking about that, it is not much more to buy a full aftermarket ecu these days cheers darren

Thanks boyz, does anyone have any suggestions on a good aftermarket ecu and how much i would be looking at getting one and the tune?

My VL had a similar setup when I first bought it, extra injector triggered off a Hobbs switch at 13psi or so...felt like secondaries opening on a carby car...crude. What my inlet manifold looked like, Hobbs switch is on the right. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

it looks like a cold start injector which is good because they generally dont pulse like a normal injector does. that injector will provide constant fuel when activated and is therefore much safer

dyno it to be 100% sure its sweet, and get them to check out how the extra injector is hooked up

I had an extra injector set up just like urs on my VLt for years and it worked fine. Mixtures on the dyno were OK (12.1:1) but having said that the down side of an extra injector set up is that you really can't see if one of the cylinders is leaning out due to poor distribution of fuel by the extra injector. This is because when the extra injector is activated it shoots fuel down the inlet manifold and not all 6 cylinders are going to get an even ditribution of fuel. Taking the spark plugs out and checking them is a good idea after a full power run to get a rough idea how rich/lean each cylinder is. Nothing beats 6 big injectors for even cylinder to cylinder fuel distribution. This is where after-market ECU's/piggyback ECU's are needed. duz360 How can u tell it's a cold start injector from the pics? I hope you're not coming to that conclusion from the mounting bracket the injector is in. That is exactly like the one i had and i had a standard VLt injector in it and then replaced it with a bosch 036 later on. Off_duty Check the wires that connect to ur injectors and you should find that one would have been spliced and a wire run from there (to get the injector signal)to the hobbs switch. Best advice is get it on the dyno to check the overall mixtures. FYI I ran my VLt with 6 standard injectors, bosch 044 pump, hobbs switch extra injector like urs, high flow t3 turbo and a front mount intercooler and could run 15psi safely.
