hey all. I am planning to run my car at the drags in a couple of weeks. Usually i run 17" mags all round with 235 wide rubber. However i put 2 chasers on the back with 205 wide rubber as my mag tyres are finished. Now here's the problem. When i take of with the chaser rims i simply can not launch the car without wheelspinning 1st and 2nd (auto). If i stall it up it makes things even worse. With the 235 rubber its still bad. I have tried doing a burnout before launching it with little success still breaks traction. Breaks traction badly enough to slow it down considerably. What i am wanting to know is what tyres should i run when i go to the drags?? I want to use the chaser rim which is 7" wide but would like to know whether its worth my while to run a slick or semi slick. My car is not making massive ammount of power. Around 230rwhp-250rwhp. One of the downfalls is im using a single spinner diff so with the mags only one wheel will spin where with the chasers both wheels start spinning. Thans for any help James

Surely someone has some suggestions. Is it wise to go slicks or are there tyres to suit 15" wheels that have a fair amount of grip??

m/t street radials. come in a 235, around about 275 per tyre. Nice soft compound like the slicks, but radial construction so you dont need to run front runners.

for 15's go firestone, you will get good grip if they are warm. if not then go slicks 205/65/r15 around $90 each brand new , do a sh17load of skids and the tyres dont wear away at all

Toyo proxes,Advan Neova, Nitto's, anything like that. (Because they are all radial semi slicks) Wider the better. say 355's Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I'll go a semi slick to suit a chaser rim in which case. Now ive never drag raced legally at a track. What is the process of warming a semi slick tyre up. Put the back wheels in the water light it up for a long period of time??? Do new slicks require some beading in?? Thanks

well I was running some cop rims with old tyres and they ended up being useless, especially once I'd done the motor up! I now run standard springs at the drags (bit of an 80's look, but can't afford the shortened diff yet -t he 4.11's took priority) and run some McCreary's which I bought 2nd hand. they grip VERY well http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...e/100_2111.jpg (http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c341/GirlTorque/100_2111.jpg) Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

i found remoulds are really sticky on like 15 psi... thats what i ran but cant really stall over 2800 or will pretty much spin 1st n second but i was running 1.8 60foots with them. remember the track is sooo much grippier than the normal road. but yeah you cant go past m/t streets but if you have no $$ like me remoulds

If ur having traction problems and u wanna solve it as best u can with tyres as opposed to gettin a lsd... go get some Bridgestone Potenza S03's.for ur 17" rims. My bro has a set on his calais.. on 18's tho once u do a skid on a set of those man.. sticky as ****. In saying that tho. before i got my car tuned back when i was making 200rwhp i ran a 13.37@102 with a best 1.9 60ft on a set of pretty worn out Bridgestone Re88's 205/60/15s, without any traction problems at all launching on 5 psi.

I use retreads on the street with 20 psi in them, it get full traction once in 2nd, i tried Et street cross ply's and they were worse as the rim isn't wide enough(6 inch). But best bet is the ET street radial in a 235/60/15, they are awesome and will hook hard at the track and double as a street tyre. cheers darren

I used toyos on intercepter rims run 12.6 in a 5sp, put slicks on only got 12.3. With 235rwkw good cheap tyres. Now with 300rwkw the toyos still only just spin into second on the street.

Thanks for all the help guys. Unfortunately won't be running now for a few months. Just turned a nice changing auto into a slipping auto tonight. Sigh Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
