Hey guys and girls
Im on the look out for a new project and originally i was looking at an SR or FJ conversion in an LC or LJ but due to the age of the shell ive sadly had to let this dream go till i have ALOT more money.
I am purchasing a mates sprinter with coilovers, adjustable everythings, new LSD blah blah blah and a twin cam conversion, This will do fine for a while.
In the not to distant future i will begin collecting parts for a conversion to a 1GGTE
This is a 2L 6cyl twin turbo engine form a soarer/supra
prices are as follows:
$695- engine
$350- loom
$550- supra 5spd
$200- fabrication and materials for crossmembers(box n engine)(thru a friend)
$400- fit loom
$500- exhaust
$500- Saab copper radiator
-------------
$3195- TOTAL
I know im missing a few things but what i want to know is how good are the engines, strength/weaknesses? i know they produce about 270hp and turbos are tiny goers but thats all. I will document the entire conversion for anyone interested in doing it.
What do you guys think? ill go ahead regardless.
Cheers tim.
(i dont want to go to a 4AGE site cos its obvious half of those fags have no idea about anything, not to mention cars)
I have spoken to the owner of the folloing car and he is a top bloke and highly recomended the conversion. He said its relativly easy, even fabricating the X memebers himself.hardest part is the wiring but i already have EFI conversion so he said that is a head start.
Sprinter engine bay.(with 1GGTE)
The mates car i am buying.
There is currently even more camber on the front than in this pic lol

what i do know is they go like a pile of sh!t in stock form.
ive driven a corona with one and it was a gutless POS

ps no need for air filters, the turbos are smaller than any dirt ive ever seen!

well what do you want to know.
1ggte good engine for lil car. was piss weak in a supra soarer. no major problems as such. change from twin turbo to single turbo best option. plop a high flow ct26 and itll crank.
if i would be doing a conversion try a 3sgte much better performer and havnt heard of any major problems. smaller engine. 4cyl and much lighter. same if not more power output.
i have myself 2 ma70 supras both with 7mgtes in them. my gf's im doing up other is for sale. got a td07 turbo and full list of mods to bolt up and will be producing 400+ rwhp with under 3g worth of mods
all really on what your willing to spend and if the car is worth it

There was an engine like the one you mentioned above in Zoom not long ago. It had a T70 chinese turbo, aftermarket managment and injectors and was making 260rwkw.
The car it was in had chrome hubcaps.

thier ok engines. i had a stock one in a mz20 soarer and it was slow. put it into a lighter chassis and do a single conversion and it would go pretty good. only 2 bad things about the idea:
1. its almost impossible to get parts for. if u break it and u wana keep the engine, u will be getting 70% of the replacement parts custom made. $$$$$ will end up being cheaper to get a 2nd hand block or complete engine from a jap wrecker weneva u blow the engine.
2. putting a 6cyl in a sprinter will almost always have a negative effect on weight distribution. it will become rather front heavy and will not be nice to drive. ud struggle to drift it comfortably because of that as well, id say. compared to a 4age-t anyway...
original idea tho. let us know if u do do it.

Sprinter
AE86 (83 - 85) - 4A-GZE, 18R-GEU, 3T-GTE, 1G-GTE, 7M-GTE, 1JZ-GTE, 3S-GTE
They'll fit in the bay for a conversion, as for work needed I have no idea. My personal preference is a 7AGTE (4AGE head, 7AFE bottom, STi Turbo)... With the right work done, can make around 300hp @ 8,000rpm... So all you have to do is work from there.

The rods arn't that strong, but can hold up to 8 grand okayish

03-04-06, 13:34 GMT+10#12 JCD: lol thats a long list dude! 11'000rpm jesus! its like a motor bike.ive seen that list befor, did toyota make that as a limited edition for some guy or something i have a poor memory was about a year ago i read it.
DUZ:are they really that piss poor? i had a feeling that the turbs were too small but a single turbo conversion is what i would consider befor the car enters the bay.the corona was stock yeah? well thats what it would be like for a while it's all how much $$$ in the end really.thanks for your opinion tho mate.
for engineering purposes aparantly it should be under 2000cc so thats why i am looking at this engine. It really has interested me cos of the price of the conversion is relatively cheap and im sure the engine would have some sort of potential.Ill look into the 4AGZE turbo conversion but it looks too pricey at the moment with custom manifold then again ill save on fabrication and can us parts of the existing engine and stuff hmmm.As for weight distribution woth the 1GGTE i dont think it would be that drastic and as i said most of the suspension is adjustable so i could negate that issue.
thanks for ya help boys.
tim
anyone else wanna throw in their 2c?

03-04-06, 14:46 GMT+10#16 Its in a yellow early model Corolla, might have made 260rwkw but imagine the lag with that mofo T70 on that little 2.0 litre...would be a pig to drive.
Edit-Sorry was thinking of wrong car...

10-04-06, 14:53 GMT+10#17 What about a ca18det. They are small motors and make ok power. If I had a sprinter I'd just put the 4agze in it and keep it naturaly aspirated(extractors, pod, cams) or supercharge it.

10-04-06, 15:07 GMT+10#18 ijd: The 4AGZE is the supercharged engine... 4AGE is the NA motor.
TRJBT1: Nah, they're a custom engine built for Group A racing in Japan. I know the guy you're talking about, and he's a racer himself, hence why he could get his hands on one. They're an awesome engine for an NA, but they suffer from the problems of most race engines, high power and high RPM = lots of rebuilding

12-04-06, 01:16 GMT+10#19 Oh ok i suppose the price of the engine would be up there with 2jz and rb26, but driving that to uni everyday would be silly but fun. thinking of hoping back in a VL sooner rather than wait till i save 10g i'd rather take longer to save than have the sprinter at all, but im still getting as soon as the VK sells. then it will be decomissioned and a receive a new engine
BTW CA18DET engine will fit but i think the turbo GZE looks the go for thing project, its sorta my first so i should keep it simple.
thanks for the replys guys

12-04-06, 01:26 GMT+10#20 i have a mate doing a 1ggte into a ra23 celica atm, his username on here is Smokey228.. you could ask him a fair few things id say, he is doing the conversion himself.
Also, the ca18det is an excellent choice, great motor for a drifter simply because they cost nothing to replace WHEN they blow up
