NOTE: For the actual commentary on comparision please grab the video's. But if there is interest I will endevour to write the details down. These are only our preliminary observations and we haven't included some critical aspects of the comparison as we ran out of memory on the camera . p.s. I know i sound gay on camera....shut up lol. for any more details post or PM and we'll try to get the details for you. Next week we'll try and test them on a VN 3800 & include pics of the compressor and turbine blade sets. Alot of people have been asking about the cheap chinese turbo's. So we bought one and a GT3540R from GCG for comparison. With the chinese turbo, it's a monsta performance "T70" with a holset rear. This was the only turbo in that general size that we deemed to be at least test worthy. Were not saying the others are crap, just this was our pick for at least some quality lol. I'm not trying to advertise the "monsta" brand or anything, just to define which "T70" it was. the distinguising feature is the turbine housing being a holset copy. The T70 can be identified by the tag being on the compressor outlet mouth. T70: 70AR compressor (garrett copy) (twin blade) CHRA ZY (I know...bummer, only thing we found bad so far) (oil only cooled) 84AR Turbine (holset copy) bush bearing GT3540R: 70AR compressor (True Garrett) (35 size trim) (Twin Blade) which is larger than the T70 one CHRA by Garrett (oil + water cooled) 1.06AR Turbine (True Garrett) (still looks smaller than the holset) Twin Ball Bearing To get the commentary on our preliminary findings look at the videos. they are large but of good quality. Heres the prelimary pics of our test. It is highly recommended that you buy a "real" turbo, but hopefully the chinese one will do at least a half decent job for a few months. Commentary Movies of our construction observations (not on car) (large files but good quality): T70vsGT3540R Compressor side (http://combinedcarclubs.com/t70vs3540/T70vs3540Compressor.AVI) T70vsGT3540R Turbine side (http://combinedcarclubs.com/t70vs3540/T70vs3540Turbine.AVI) Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

and the results? interested to know. everyone says these chinese turbos fall apart after 1000ks of boosting etc

see the vids? they give some details. we haven't had them on ther car yet, waiting on oil ines to suit. will do another thread with them running and with the comp & turbine covers removed etc.

Good stuff fellas. Interested to see the results, are you going to try them on a car on a dyno to see how they behave, spool time etc? Edit-im asuming you'll be testing them judging by the commentary, keep us posted.

yeah but tested on a 3800. intial test next weekend where testing turbine spin-up RPM etc. the turbo's won't be dyno tested. The end goal is to provide the 3800 crowd with instructions and costs of boosting up a V6. should be able to do it for about $3k (no tune or engineering)

good stuff......so has one of these chinese turbos been tested yet?

we haven't tested this one on a car yet, we were gonna do that yesterday but the manifolds are a little too far forward in the engine for it and the starter motor got damaged through the week. I will modify this thread and bump it when we do. could be a couple of weeks. Surely someone else has tested a monsta T70 (holset rear garrett front) before somewhere......anyone? any info would be great Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Im running a copy on mine atm, on the plate says its a "super T70" , plate is blue and silver and is attatched to the comp cover, I had it pulled down cause i wasnt sure on it and had a 360 deg thrust fitted, the chra is kkk copy, the comp cover back plate is kkk also. The turbine housing hasnt any brands or markings on it, its a divided entry type. So far had it dynoed, for a run in tune on 8psi , have down 1000 kms, so far so good , no shaft play etc, is fairly laggy but thats expected with such a big turbo over a standard t3. Will be goin back to the dyno once run in properly and want to run 25-27. Will show some figures once its all finished.

lol, haven't blown ourselves up as yet. long story short: haven't tested yet Long story Long: Well as always we never got there, our workshop is no longer available and we had to move the car to another location, so its all in bits. We both got girlfriends and they take up our time these days. We finished the manifolds, but wanna get a set fabbed properly without such ****ty welds. we cracked the starter motor lifting and moving the engine...so we can;t start the car and none of us can be bothered getting a another one lol. The Holset rear 70's come with a 12 month warranty (what it covers i have no idea). If i had my way, forget the t70's get a gt3540 with a .64(or close) rear housing for good flow and low spool.

We tested the T70 chinese turbos on One of our cars which was client supplied and he has gone through 2 in 2 months! on both occations it has spun the front wheel off! this was on low boost(10psi) and on the second chance the front wheel shartered into a trillion peices and ended up in the intercooler, another car came into the workshop with a chinese T04E which has been only dyno'd and it has already shown some oil in the comp cover, save your selfs the grief and buy only Garret or turbonetics turbos, they cost 3 times the price but will last and you have the backing of a reputable company as with ebay you will get court out as with out client with the T70's he has tried to contact the seller and they are a no longer registered user! just my 2cents that will save you hundreds of $$$$$............

Totally agree with you there. I had a turbonetics T60-1 on mine and couldn't fault it, even though I paid a bit more for it than the equivalent chinese/american copy.

The only ball bearing t70s id say would be the ones rebuild by mrturbo or simular
