Some People say "Race Bred"
Its more likely just 2 random letters chosen by nissan that have no meaning.
Its a like asking "what does VL stand for".

Petros is on the money...
R,B,S,V,Q,H, are all Nissan codes that dont have meanings like Race Breed or sporty this or that....
The first letter descriptor is chosen to identify a style range and the second to delimit the type/application of the engine package.
R = 6 cylinder, closed deck.
B = Gasoline application using cast iron/nickle based block.
S = 4 cylinder, closed deck.
R= Gasoline application using sand-cast alloy based block.
K = 4 cylinder, closed deck.
A = Gaslone application using sand-cast iron based block.
Q = 4 cylinder, open deck.
R = Gaslone applcation using die-cast alloy based block.
Further to this, there are casting codes etched into the blocks that denote the series run and construction of the block. They show the different series castings and metalurgy used. I.e.: 53C, 54D, etc.
