Hi, I have 4 S2 headrests with the pins spaced at 130mm, yet all S1 & S2's I've looked at so far have the pins spaced at 210mm. The diameter of the pins is slightly smaller as well and are too loose in the plastic clips from a 210mm headrest. Any clues anyone?? maybe a late S2, different seat manufacturer?? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Holden just changed the design to longer, thinner & close together pins which use a white plastic "slide in tubes" rather then the thicker shorter & more distance apart pins which go thru all the old series commos (VH-VK) back head rest design with the black plastic "slide in tubes" Funny enough tho all not all vl series 2 calais seats were in this design... My research into this is that as they first rolled out the series 2 design they retained the VK style pins aswell as having a different back set up for the rear seats - they had like a plastic hard square map pocket and just vinyl at the backing... I like to call this series 2-1 calais seats when holden started to finish up its run of the vl they changed both the pin design and also the back of the front seats design to a fabric stetch bag like map pocket much like the vn calais and fabric backing also... I like to call this series 2-2 calais seats clues to why they done it? who knows... but with the series 2-2 rear head rests I noticed that they dont have the steel wire part which in the series 2-1 head rests went around the pins which would have helped in putting the fabric on the head rest in manufacturing... rather they just used stapples to slap it together lol Hope this info helps... Im wanting to do further research into the series 2-1 & 2-2 and may make it into a technical thread with pictures of the different designs etc... when I have time (never really :P lol) Cheers, Daz

Hey thanks for the info, thought it must have been along those lines Quote: but with the series 2-2 rear head rests I noticed that they dont have the steel wire part which in the series 2-1 head rests went around the pins which would have helped in putting the fabric on the head rest in manufacturing... rather they just used stapples to slap it together lol Thats interesting also, these headrests are 2-2 but have the wire rods not, staples. Maybe the ones u saw had been recovered? I can post some pics of these ones 4 u.

I wouldnt be surprised if the spare series 2-2 was a recover job.. doesnt exactally sit very straight compared to my series 2-1 ones lol So did you just purchase some head rests? just remember that you need the white plastic tube holders as the black ones from early versions dont work (as you found out with them having the mr wobbles lol)... Im interested in seeing a series 2-2 backet design and the measure specs of it... might need to do more research :P Cheers, Daz

Ive been trying to tell people this for aaaggges but nobody believes me that Holden did this to the seats and headrests. I have 3 1988 model "series 2-2" Calais and 1 1988 model Berlina, all of which have the better velour map pockets in the back of the front seats. Not the crappy square solid vinyl ones that the Series 1 and Series 2-1 had Also all the Calais have the closer together (130mm) style headrests with the big fat square plastic pins. They are the same pins they use on the front seats. Whereas the S1 and S2-1 have the thinner black tube pins, and the headrests are spaced further apart. All my calais headrests do have that wire on the corners you're talking about Daz... Also on my berlina the back seat is curvier at the ends and the front edge of the seat is more raised than the S2-1 Berlina's and the S1 Berlina's which where completely squarer alltogehter. So the only difference in the Berlina's came in the Series 2-2 or the 1988 models. The front seats in my Berlina also have the round VN shape headrests and the seats have nice bolsters and are heaps more curvier similar to VN seats but not as big. All 1988 Series 2-2 SL's and Exec's were the same deal just with the cheaper cloth on the seats instead of velour. But yeah same deal with the nicer shaped seats and rounder headrests. I can help you out with pics and stuff Daz if you want to post a tech article or you can tell me what you know and I can post it up if you don't have time to do it. Antho... Hey Antho. did you mean to have the thickness of the pins the other way round i.e. S1 and S2-1 are 210mm spacing with thicker pins and black tubes S2-2 are 130mm spacing with thinner pins and white tubes Interesting notes about the rear map pocket design, headrest shape and seat shapes. The changes they made on-the-fly seems to go on and on!! Other differences i've noted are seat belts [minor] console skirt shape auto shifter calais instrumentation [low fuel warning] Quote: So did you just purchase some head rests? Yeah, picked up a set ages ago, now have discovered their useless-as to me!! Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

They must have been running short on blue ones the half assed Holden workers lol. Quote: Originally Posted by VLHDT 86 Yeah, picked up a set ages ago, now have discovered their useless-as to me!! Will dig it up for you if you like.
