Hey brought a vlct a couple days ago and on the drive home it was running sweet, got it home and one of ma mates went for a run in it and reckons it has a "boost spike" wtf is it, if it is such a thing??? cheers Nick

Normally associated to boost "spiking" to say 15psi, when boost is say set on 11psi.

yea its to do with bleed valve boost controlers is my understanding.
Getting an electonic one fixes it.
(correct me if im wrong)
I have boost spike , as i change gears the boost will spike to 12psi for a second then drop down and stay at the psi level it is set at. Which in my case is 10psi.
U can actually see boost spike on my dyno read out.

Can also be attributed to shoddy wastegates

from my understanding, its more likely due to the wastegate not staying shut at anything much over 10psi. its not so much a spike, but boost dropping off as the wastegate spring is not strong enough to hold it shut at higher boost levels.

mine was running 14psi when i got and it jumps to 18psi now, i have that adjustable valve inside my car but its locked not to change anything. and ext gate

what do you mean your mate reckons it spikes to 13psi? have you looked at the boost gauge yourself??

As stated i got it with my and from searchin the forums thats how i found the answer that an electronic one fixes it.
Now thanks to the thread im thinkin i should get my wastgate cheaked. I know sweet FA about stock wastegate on a stock t3.
Any advice?

i dont know what im lookin 4?? i mentioned to my m8 that anotha member on this website has had the same problem )spirit77) and he said my car is doing the same thing but is spiking 2 13psi!! so is installing a boost controller the right solution?? as i dnt already have 1!?!?!? cheers

27-01-06, 21:05 GMT+10#12 if you dont have a boost contoller then its more than likely to be the actuator. as mentioned above the diaphram cannot withstand the boost pressure.
simply buying an electronic controller will not fix the problem. i believe these things make the situation worse.

Generally its a couple of things
1) The installation of the bleed valve
2) The actuator might be a little tired or bent
an EBC generally doesnt fix it.
I've run bleeders on all my cars since 2002 (RB20-stock turbo, RB25 t04e/GT30, RB30 t3...), ive never had a spiking issue with any of them
However with my RB26 ill be using an EBC but thats for other reasons.
There are lots of ways to reduce it the spike, almost eliminate it
A lot of the time, as i saw someone else post, thier bleeder in in the cabin?
His spike would be more than likely due to the length of the hose going to the t-pieced line to the bleeder.
The closer you can get it the better and more accurate boost control will be... if the actuator isnt up the creek, which is likely nearly 20years on

Why are you not looking at the gauge yourself? I would be looking at the gauge first to see if it is spiking then go yeah its spiking... Also it could be the guage itself.. A mate of mine his gauge in his 180sx stuffed up and now reads all differnt boosts levels. The only way we know this is becuase its stock plus when you knock the gauge the needle jumps up and down while the car is not on.

Can you tell me why is it that on the vlct sitting here the vac line from the actuator goes all the way around to the other side of the motor and tapped into the vac lines there. Yet the car still holds boost fine...
The only way you are really going to fix the problem is if you take it to someone. Its the only way you will be able to get the problem fixed.
In some cases an EBC have fixed problems for some people but for others it didnt...

28-01-06, 12:38 GMT+10#16 Depends on the valve type, size, hose diameter, length
I mean, how many variables you wanna bring into a discussion really as thats what its gonna get down too.
I had my bleeder on the other side of the bay in one (my last setup) and it was fine.
But many others have not, by shortening the hose its solved a lot of the problem, if not removed it. Cant aruge with whats works for some people.
Doesnt work all the time, hence why i posted a couple of options one can start with to see if any of it alleviates the problem (that is if there is even one as this guy doesnt really know whats going on)

28-01-06, 12:50 GMT+10#17 thats it.. he does not really know what is going on..
yeah a mate could of said to me my car is spikeing too.. but if i had an aftermarket boost gauge i would be looking at that first before anything else.
But like said you said it depends on some people it may work for you but may not work for someone else..
But yeah if i was this guy i would be looking at the guage just to make sure that it is not spikeing etc and if it is then try and figure out what is going on by going over what was installed into the car if there is anything i am guessing a bleed valve.
