Hi guys i have a VK and have completed my coversion to a 1jzgte twin turbo toyota motor. but it doesnt like the heat AT ALL, have put a new radiator in and it has a 16inch thermal fan on it but it still overheats and no matter what you do idle or driving as soon as i turn the lights on the temp goes up. Any ideas, it goes so well but i cant drive it anywhere if its above 30 outside????? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Did you put a new thermostat in it? It could be jammed open. The water then moves too fast through the radiator to cool it. Otherwise get rid of the 16" thermo. I had a davies craig on mine and it dosn't flow anywhere near as much air as the factory clutch fan. Did 1JZGTE's have a clutch fan? If not, maybe look at the twin AU thermos. They work really well aparantly.

That's why the AU twin thermo setup works so well ... good shroud and two fans to pull lots of air through similar to a traditional clutch fan and shroud... Jamie

Beat me to it... I had a 16" thermo on my VK, and without a shroud I couldnt keep it cool... I went back to normal clutch fan setup with a shroud and it stayed cool 24/7.

Jamie Nah, i had the shroud fitted with the thermo. Replaced it with the stock fan and the temp hasn't gone over half yet. Regardless of the fan setup, the temp should come down within minutes when you're doing 60km/h+ which makes me think it's not the fan.

cheers guys, i know its not the thermostat i changed it, its brand new, and the water pump is new and the radiaotr is new, the radiator guy seems to think it is the sender cause they arent matched up to the VK dash, i changed the sender to another chaser(car motor is from)one and it seems to be holding temp failr well only moves up a bit when punished hard in 35degrees, so until the gauge is set up properly i really wont know , the radiator guy is workin that part out. bt the gauge still moves up and down instantly with the lights on and off, i still think that is wierd???

Wouldn't you need to use the sender out of a VK? If it fits that is. You might have a dodgey earth in the dash cluster.

so you dont reckon temp would rise like that, with the lights on... must be electrical? Quote: Originally Posted by MonstaS4 Wouldn't you need to use the sender out of a VK? If it fits that is. You might have a dodgey earth in the dash cluster.

I'll back a sender mis-match. Here's one for the VL guys to try, disconnect the wire from your oil pressure sender, leave the ignition off, turn the lights on and see what happens.....

if your tamps get above 110dec c than start to get worried. 80 and 90 is perfect. also about thurmostats dont trust a new one they can be buggerd also, allways boil them first to see when they open and anouther thing u are cool, i wanted to do this to my cressida but i up dated to a vl insted, i had a 83 cressida with a 5me motor and it died and i wanted to up grade to a 7mgte or the 1jzgte. i would also like to see some pics....love the toyota motor but the rb hold a more deaper spot for me

put the shroud back on, if u got no shroud the air wont be drawn directly into the radiator there for no coolant will be cooled. that will be your problem i reckon.
