Hi all, In an attempt to clean up my engine bay even more, was wondering if anyone has relocated their fuse box. I'm leaning towards putting it in the glove box inside the car, has anyone done it (can it be done without to many hassles ie extending wires). Any other ideas on where it can go would be appreciated as I have a week or two before getting everything back from the electroplaters and its pretty much the only thing thats black and plastic left under the hood. It has to go... Thanks in advance for any ideas and help. Brad.

i got a funny feeling that there is room under the drivers dash where the fuse box sits in the VK and theres a door in the VL dash and it might go well there??

Yes, plenty of people have relocated the fuse box to the glove box. Once you pull the grommet through the firewall, there should be enough length to reach without extension of wires.

ive heard of it beeing put where the vk one is on the drivers side. but if its auto than the auto computer must be relocated. something about using a vr fuse box or something........

All ya gotta do is push the gromet out, pull the fuses and wires from the box and they will push straight through the hole, then just gotta make a mount for the box (or new box if it doesnt fit the best) and away you go... Will have to do something with the huge hole left over though!

Hi chaps, this looks like a dead thread and wonder if people have lost interest, I have some pics I can post of a local race car for Barbagallo meet which had this done, turned out to be easier than expected. For ages I havent found the need for this but now I am having a rethink so I can out a bigger turbo in the engine bay (or move it to above the diff). Also would be good to redo my engine bay anyway as it is urgent need of a tidyup, So has anyone else gone ahead with this and could they post some pictures ?

Yeh i'd love to see some pics of the relocation of the fuse box especially to the VK position as my VL is a V8 no computer for the auto. Appreciate the input guys!!!!!!!!! Regards Robert

I'm in the process of cleaning my wagons engine bay up. However, which end do you pull through the firewall, the gromit only really appears be able to pushed back into the cabin....?? is this correct. Also can someone who has done this please go into a bit more detail. Thanks heaps. Jaze

Although I havent done this, it seems to me the grommet might have to be cut and replaced with a normal industrial "gland" (if you still want some other wires to come through that you need), you can get the plastic from an electronics shop like Altronics or Jaycar and cut it to length. But first one might have to:- a. Cut the grommet b. Remove the fuserail (ie cut wires off) and mark each wire in the process (Guessing on this as my hole is too small to fit fuserail through)...! c. Mount the fuserail in the glovebox on some suitable standoffs d. Pull the wires through e. Re-attach the wires f. Plug up the hole unless you need any others to pass through here. If it was me though, Id make another hole further away from engine for just those things you need like AFM, injectors etc... Comments ? The fuserail upgrade I sell has 4 extra mounting holes and slip on crimp lugs on the underneath, so the ability to shift this to glovebox is already designed in.

Good to see you are still selling the fuserail upgrade mike. Best thing I ever did for my electrics (sorry for the slight hijack).

b. Remove the fuserail (ie cut wires off) and mark each wire in the process (Guessing on this as my hole is too small to fit fuserail through)...! if you take out the fuses the fuse rail will slide through the hole. i hate this whole cut and join mentality, thats why all vl have dodgy wireing!joins corrode and require air tight insulation and look like ****. also you can even take the terminals out of the fuse rail so easily so why would you cut shiit? beware of ebay fuse rails as they supply crimps to "cut and join" crimps are the worst way of joining electrical wire even worst than just twisting it together, joints should always be solderd and heat shrink used ,its funny how many electrical faults ive fixed on others cars that turn out to be an oxidised crimp or a joint that has been exposed to oxigen. end rant Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

im just about to relocate all engine bay wireing and move fuse rail and relays to glove box on my new project,i puchased a few different singular fuse holders that are individualy mountable from **** smith and the one that ive decided on is a scew cap type with glass type fuses(old stlye but most reliable) but its rated to 25 amp so im in process of finding a few 50 amp ones the same syle. will also run tiny LEDs(like alarm ones but better quality and not as bright) on circuts after fuses so will light up when all is well, and then i plan to mount on a peice of polished alloy/stainless plate with relays mounted nicley in it it should look pro. will keep ya posted
