As long as my Calais doesn't fall apart in the time I have it, I couldn't care less about the rust. Bog on.

Apparantly this place sells the panel and its joined to look like 1 piece. Its getting done thru a mate, who gonna respray half the car and "cure all cancer" and i probably wont get much change from a grand. I think the panel was something like 45 bucks, but dont quote me on that, im not sure.

The windscreen sills are welded in, not bolted like some other panels. The old sill is cut out and the new one welded in its place.

13-01-06, 00:10 GMT+10#10 the sills can be brought from rarespares....i just purchased one and have grinded the old rusted out one and am waiting on the other one getting welded in...it set me back $133 but i believe is wel worth it and better then bog etc. have a look on http://www.rarespares.net.au in the vb-vl section i think its under rust repair then the name of the panel. the price on the website is more expensive then i paid i know i went into the shop ad they said $133 so i didnt complain. if u guys want ill take some pics of it.

13-01-06, 00:29 GMT+10#11 Its not that easy repairing that ****. People put bog over it but its only a matter of time when it comes back up through the bog.
Its probobly best if the panel gets chopped out and you weld a new panel back on.If you Chop the seal and put a metal plate back on youll have fun sculpturing the filler i reckon.
Cheers

13-01-06, 20:19 GMT+10#15 If the rust in the boot isn't too bad yet, get some grease and lube the affected areas up and that should take care of it for quite a while to come yet. I've got quite a bit of rust forming in the floor of the boot under the carpet. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about that, maybe the grease trick, maybe I'll take a leaf out of dad's book and use fish oil (which I REALLY don't want to do, coz it stinks beyond the stench of anything else!)

16-01-06, 15:09 GMT+10#17 you can do the same thing to the front sill as well. it isnt actually a panel but a part of the percel shelf but the rust repair panel is shaped to allowed you to cut out the outer part of the shelf and weld a new one in. mine is in the process of getting welded in i will take come pics when its finished but not painted and then after when the painting is complete. its not a straight panel replacement but is well worth it if you can be bothered. me and a mate drilled out the welds for the bottom of the rear windscreen then grinded out the rest and my next door neighbour is a welder and is going to weld the new one in for me.
