Well, it is now officially the end of an era... Sold my 88 VL Berlina on saturday after owning her for just a tad over 4 years, my very first car.... Me and her went through alot of highs and lows together, many nights out with the boys, countless trips with the girlfriend... It took me absolutely everywhere, every place i've ever seen since i've had my licence pretty much. Perfectly reliable, only ever died on me twice, both locally (luckily)... once was the CAS the other time was the AFM... Only 2 glitches she ever had, but she was up and running, rearing to go less than 24hrs after it ever happened. Brought her in 2001 with 185,xxx on the clock, totally stock with a rear plastic louvre (sp?) and all. Over 4 years i put in a stereo that started with a headunit, 7x10's in the shelf and 4in in the dash and a 4chnl amp, after a while, put in 2 12in subs and another amp, then a little later, a better deck, got rid of the 7x10's and 4's, put splits in custom (self-built) door pods, got rid of the 2 subs, got another single 12in sub and ended up with around 135dB on a termlab spl meter. Did that all spanning over the 4 years, also during that time i put a set of 17in anz matrix rims on her, got lukey extractors, full 2.5in sports system from the cat back, lowered her on superlow kings and pedders shocks with a whiteline adjustable panhard bar. Rolled the guards in anticipation of bigger wheels, had the windows tinted, and a sports steeringwheel. I spend countless hours on her washing her, polishing her paint, keeping her in the best condition i could, serviced her every 5,000k's with new oil and filter, and new plugs every 6 months...
She left my life on saturday the 17th december 2005 with 238,xxx km on the clock, minus the stereo (stereo replaced with cheaper spare components), sports steering wheel, 17in matrix's (replaced with 16in vt S-pak wheels with new rubber off my new ride) and a r.w.c. After 4 years, all it needed for roadworthy was new front brake pads, rear brake shoes (never replaced in the time i owned her) and a r.h.s tie-rod end boot cover, that was it. I loved and cared for her the whole time i owned her....
It feels weird not having it here so i can't just jump in her and go 4 a drive. The new car i got is a 95 VS Calais 5lt with 179,xxxkms on the clock, lets just hope that its as reliable and as good as my VL was to me....
Thanks for listening guys....

allways like that colour, sounds pritty cool dude, should of just bought another VL nice calais v8 step up and alot of mods but whats done is done....have fun
Nice car man, reminds me of my Berlina which was pretty much my first car (first car I drove on the road) Still have her even when I had the calais turbo in one piece... Many times I was going to sell her but just couldn't do it because I didn't really need the money that badly.
nice car dude, shame you had to sell it. i know what its like to have to part with a vl. i loved my wagon, took me everywhere and had bulk good times driving it but had to sell to buy a new car. i think when i sell my calais it wont feel as bad as when i sold my wagon......
get another vl dude....
So sad... I'm never sellin mine, or at least thats what i'm sayin 4 now.
If any thing I'll sell it for a CV8Z Monaro in about 10yrs time.
As long as u don't ever get a holden V6, Holden will always keep u happy!
It was really hard to sell her, i spent hours upon hours, days apon days thinking about whether i'd sell her or not, figuring out if i could afford to keep her and the new car, it just didn't end up feasable at this time, rego was due in the same month, insurance would b due at the same time, there wasn't enough room here at home for her, and i'm at my last year of uni studies which i really have to concentraite on and just can't give it second spot to earning money, so i had to let her go. I just hope the guy who brought it off me looks after her and loves her as much as i did... you never know, i may end up in a calais turbo in a few years as a weekender, just for fun.... You never know... but sh*t, i think it was one of the hardest things i ever had to do so far in my life.... Its pretty much just like loosing a part of me.... you know how it is, you know the exact sound it makes, how it moves, what it does in almost every situation, how it will react, you know exactly the minute something changes or something isn't right, its almost like an extension of yourself....
ush
holy sh!t dude, u really got attached didn't you...?
If i were in your situation, i would hav left it unregisted with a tarp' over it in the back yard.
Jus start it up every now and again and drive down the street and back and when finished studyin' get her back on the road again!
Well I hope it went to a good owner.
I had a VL Berlina, which I sold for a VN Calais, which I hated and bought a VL Calais. Never regretted it.
Its a shame VLs are getting on a bit in age now..
Hey that almost looks the same colour as mine. (See in av)
Next will be my 3rd year of ownership on mine.
Its sad to see a nice VL like that go.
Oh well good luck with the new VS anyway mate.
