hi
just read a few articles in here some amazing work people are doing to there VL's
q1 . what is the best inlet manifold ( Plenum ) for a RB30T engine that produces say
1. 300 bhp
2 400 bhp
3. 600 bhp and greater ???
apart from the nizpro one that i know of are there other manifolds on the market ? who sells them ? what sort of money are they worth to buy ? and do u have pictures
does anyone have some actual horse power figures to show

The best flowing inlet manifold on the market, I'm pretty sure is the SPP (Specialised power porting).. a local bloke down here (Andrew Sanders) designed them from the ground up.. flow more cfm per runner than any other RB30 manifold..
cost around $2k..
Best to call andy and have a chat to him about it..

hi
does andrew sanders have a website , i tryed to do a search couldnt find anything
I have seen in the sponsed section of this forum several members making there own inlet manifolds for customers
they look great but how good do they work
do we have horseper power figures on these manifolds ( which is not a good way of judgeing how good they are cause different people would have different spec engines and turbos
but do theses guys have flow testing results for there manifolds I'm a bit reluctant to ask in there threads as i dont want to hijack or pollute there threads
so im more interested in people that are using there manifolds for some feed back as im in the process of building my engine and need to decide to which manifold i should consider buying .
what is the best working and value for money inlet manifold out there on the market place ?
and same deal on the exhaust turbo headers
what is the best working and value for money Turbo headers out there on the market ?

JDCustom plenums best value for money I reckon if you want to lash out go a nizpro if you can find them or get a new one off brescani same manifold just they have brescani on them insted of nizpro.

Yeah, all you have to remember everything is a compromise.. it flows the most but it comes at the loss of low down torque.. some people try comparing this manifold to something like the new Rajab plenum, but they ae completely different designs. Bottom line was the SPP manifold flows a lot more cfm of air than the other manifolds around good or bad just take it for what it is.
Kylie 6boost knows th figures for these.. from memory it's around 440cfm per runner, the bresciani and JD ones would vary between 215 and 225cfm per runner, as both of these manifolds mount to VLT and N/A runners.
My JD works a treat.. runs the numbers and makes good power, the only reason to go to a bigger manifold would be to make more power on less boost, at the expense of low down torque.. which atm is not high on the priority list.

there are a few, JDCustom (Cheap and effective) Rajab (Proven and cheap) Bresciani/Nizpro (Proven and pricey, Looks the goods) MSC (Proven, Price, Looks good, Uses its own runners)

you should really ring around and do some investigation prior to buying a plenum. I have seen alot of mates buy plenums which look all nice and shiny, only to have motors melt, have a car that is laggy as ****, - only to pop the plenum open and look at the way they have been designed.
ring around mate - do some investigation -
Personally - I would go the Rajab plenum

what are MSC charging for there plenum

agree with this completly i have had a spp plenum & rajab plenum on my car & as morgo said there is a compromise...personally i chose to go the Rajab simply because my car is pretty much just a fun "street" car in the future when i decide i want all the power that i can possibly sqeeze out of it i will know doubt put a SPP plenum back on it.( i am not saying that power cant be made with a Rajab Plenum)
decide what you want do with the car & base your choice on that & chose your combination based on that ....... the bottom line is a plenum wont make or break your engine. you need to make sure that the cam, turbo & manifolds are chosen based on what your goals are with the engine it is no good aiming for low end torque & buying manifolds & turbo base on this & then buying the biggest cam you can buy........it is all COMBINATION. get one thing wrong & your screwed..

26-12-05, 18:27 GMT+10#13 I fail to see how any of these plenums would make more power then the standard plenum with an equivalent size throttlebody as most front facing plenums use.
They would make it easier to run the IC piping though.
Spend the money on porting the runners and head ports, surely that must be more restrictive and offer more potential improvement then the plenum?
Then again look at the runner and port size on an RB25/26 head. No amount of porting on an RB30ET head will bring it even close. 50+mm vs 30+mm.
For the money of a plenum, invest it towards a complete RB26 head with standard front facing plenum and individual throttlebodys.
You would have to end up miles in front, surely.
And remember only my 2c. Your 2c may differ

Agree with this also, I fear someone i know is about to find this out the hard way...his engine builder supplied him a nice big shiny plenum to go with his built 25head, 35/40 and forged bottom end...it now has a knock and is filling the catch can...not goodat all, poor guy!
'BT' has a Rajab plenum with a small Hiflow, nice built Jatco 4spd with 3000stall and its punchy as **** on the street! Makes 200rwkw but has bags of torque down low.
RB30-POWER-from the flow figures ive read the factory turbo plenum and or runners seem to flow extremely inconsistantly and makes the RB30 prone to leaning out cylinders 3 and 4 (as ive found out previously), I think the N/A plenum is a good cheap alternative as proven on cars like Tempests which makes boost ridiculously low in the rev range with a 35/40...
To sum up-

26-12-05, 19:58 GMT+10#15 All the more reason to get the turbo runners, ported so the flow figures are even across the board.
I like the turbo plenum for the fact its fully open, i.e the throttlebody does not face at two runners in particular, maybe why it was revised?
Its all funny though.
Because i know a guy that done tests on a Greedy Plenum on an RB25 and the cylinders were getting more even air flow with the standard plenum that the throttlebody faces two runners, then the Greedy front facing item.
(Measured with Pyrometer on each runner and O2 sensors)
Air flow seems very unpredictable to me.

26-12-05, 20:12 GMT+10#16 The turbo plenum does face at cylinders or runner 3 and 4, its directly in front of them, you would think its inevitable that they will pull more air than the 2 runners on each end, which will be scavenging what 3 and 4 dont take, the flow figures are posted on here somewhere and there is a massive difference between 3 and 4 and 1,2,5 and 6. My mate has a modified factory turbo plenum where they have put splitters (looks like 10mm metal rod) welded just after the throttle body (where it mates with the opening to the plenum) in an effort to disperse air more evenly as it enters the plenum chamber. Havent had it flowed or nothing so cant report any benefits unfortunately....
Unpredictable, I agree.

26-12-05, 20:28 GMT+10#17 It doesn't really.
Like look at the NA item. The runners run all the way to the throttlebody.
The turbo plenum runners don't start until the base of the plenum.
Under boost the entire plenum will be pressurised anyway, so surely it neglible.

trust me the larger the plenum the more power it will make in the top end on my own car we picked up quite a bit of power see attached dyno sheet ......
as i said earlier pick your manifolds based on what you want to achieve power ????? or torque ........longer runners = more torque!!!!!!

28-12-05, 14:39 GMT+10#20 thats wot im worried about all these fancy looking manifolds but how well really do they work
my ideal manifold would be one that doesnt favour any cylinder filling from one another cylinders
ie all even cylinder fill
so whos manifold does that ??
the real way to know in my eyes is yes flow bench testing on a wider scale rather than just one port at a time
or
on a engine dyno with exhaust temperature sensors in each exhaust pipe or high speed air/fuel ratio meter wide band oxygen sensor in each exhaust port again to see exactly which cylinders are favoured more than others
so this way on can rectify the problem inside the manifolds , ie meaning whether deflector plates or obsticles are neede inside the manifold to redirect the air or what ever means is needed to fix any cylinder favouring
its all good and well to say this is the best cause it looks the part .
so many times i seen manifolds favour cylinders which makes tuning the more difficult and which is directly related to power loss
