Hey guys got a vn 5litre and having some dramas, when i put my foot flat to the floor at high revs the car just wants to die down, its like its not getting enough fuel. Does anyone know what could be going on? a few people have told me it might have something to do with the convertor (2500), im thinking more along the lines of fuel line or pump or fuel related.

i dont think it'd be trans related as it'd prob be slipping all over the place, def sounds like a blockage.. could be all, neither or either of what you mentioned... gotta do the elimination process i guess, do a service, replace fuel filters e.t.c see from there, could even be fuel pump, injectors,

if it's running out of fuel top end it might start to detonate, so keep an ear out for that. otherwise i'd look at spark. check your plug gaps, could be blowing out spark, this bit will sound stupid but check your alternator belt, they can sometimes sip at higher rpm, and with an efi car you need a fair few amps to have her running ok. look at the coil, plug leads etc. then go over your fuel system, first stop would be fuel pressure, then pump, then the rest. if none of that start looken at some sensors. if none of that, swear at me then take it to a pro.

I had a similar problem with my car for years? Does it pick straight up again after you take your foot off the accelerator? What type of fuel pump are you running mechanical or electrical?

Yeh usually once i release the throttle and put it down again it usually picks up like nothings happened. Couple months back it done it as i was coming to the lights and the car just switched off, i tried starting it but no go. gave it 30seconds and it started and i drop off. im pretty sure its electrical pump. im thinking its fuel related. On my mates vn when he turns ignition on to accesories u can hear his fuel pump running smooth, mine sounds clagged, duznt run smooth. Wat ended up being the prob on ur car VL383?

Problem was fuel related. Quadies only have a small fuel bowl within the Carby itself. If you have any restriction, porr fuel flow, bad pickup in the tank the Carby will run out of fuel and the car will die under hard acceleration, because the fuel will move to the back of the tank away form the pickup, until the Carby can fill up again (usually after you back off). You can try using a Holley Carby they usually don't show this problem because they have two fuel bowl's and they are much larger. This will only prove that it's a fuel problem, I still recomend using a quadrajet. I still run a quady with the following mods and it works fine: Install a good quality electric pump Install a large volume fuel line min 5/8th size Change the fuel pickup to the back of the tank.
